Can you freeze sugar cookies?

Can you freeze sugar cookies?

We donated to the ASPCA as our favor for the wedding but I just decided to make sugar cookies in the shape of dog bones so our guests have something to take home with them too. Can I bake the cookies in advance and freeze them until like the week of the wedding and then thaw them out and decorate them?

TIA!

Yes but they don't taste the same once they've thawed out. We did this for a fundraiser of some sort at some point I just don't remember which one. Bake sale for cheerleading I think.

I think you can make the dough and keep in frozen or in the fridge for a while, but I'm not 100%

Yeah that's what FH said. I was hoping to be able to do some prep work now but I guess I'll just be baking away the week of the wedding! Thanks for the advice though!!

why not get the pilsbury sugar cookie that is in the roll in the fridge section of the grocery store and roll it out and then cut them in the dog bones with a cookie cutter. That will save you a lot of time.

But if you want to make them from scratch I think you can make the dough and freeze it then just take it out and let it get to room temp so you can roll it out.

My best friend is a baker and I'll text her and ask her about freezing the dough and I'll let you know.

I actually have the cookie cutter (I got a whole set for my bridal shower ) I didn't think of the pre-made dough...good thinking!

Thanks I really appreciate you asking your friend!

No problem! She said that to freeze the dough wrap it in plastic wrap then when you are ready to use it don't let it get to room temp, you want it a bit cold so it wont be sticky and use a little flour on the work surface.
