Can you negotiate at bridal gown shops on prices of the dresses? I am especially interested in the more high end, couture stores. Someone told me you can negotiate but I feel weird doing that in a high end store. It's not like I am in the streets of mexico buying something...LOL> Please help.

I went dress shopping for the first time last night. The woman who helped me asked what my budget was and although every dress I tried on was over my budget, they gave me prices that were a bit lower then what they are listed for. Also, if you buy the sample dress, they'll cut you a great deal on it usually.

You can definitely haggle, even in the higher end stores. I got my gown at Bridal Reflections in Carle Place and they dropped the price over $800 for me on a designer gown.
When you find a dress you like, just ask them if they can do any better on the price.

Definitely! They mark up these dresses soooo much that gives them room to drop the price

I think it really depends on the place. For example, I have heard Priscilla of Boston ABSOLUTELY will not. I have been there and loved their dresses. However, I found my 'dream' dress at a smaller type bridal shop in Brooklyn. They took $800.00 off when I told them my budget.

I think you can negotiate everywhere. There's a mark-up at every point and all vendors that are willing to work with you will drop the price a bit, if asked appropriately. Go for it!

ok, good advice, thanks. If you can do it at Macy's or Bridal Reflections, then I feel good about doing it. Saying 'Can you do any better on the price' is a goid way of wording it. Thanks.

You can negotiate EVERYTHING in life.
Also find out if sites like netbride.com and stores like Burton's carry your dress and the price. Then go back to the store and tell them that you saw the dress for less and if need be tell them the price. They may not match it but they will come down.
Buying dresses is like buying a car or a house. You should not pay 'sticker price'. Don't be afraid. I was lucky that my Dad taught me how to do this.
