Can you negotiate wedding gown price?

Hello All,

Just wondering if you can negotiate wedding gown prices. I found a dress that I love, but I wasn't sure if I could ask the saleslady for a reduction in price. You think a salon would offer a cash discount or something?

Thanks

Re: Can you negotiate wedding gown price?

I did,,Not only did i get the girls dresses for 18% off, but i also got her to not charge me for the extra sizing (i was a size 20 atthe time and it was 75.oo for the extra size...)

By the way the standard reduction most places will give you is ten percent off..I told the owner that i was from franklin square (at the time) and she needed to make it worth my while to come to lynbrook.. for ten percent i can stay at a salon in Frank.Sq.

Re: Can you negotiate wedding gown price?

I found that the salon I found my dress at would not negotiate price...not sure if this is typical.

I was surprised how prices vary for the same gown at different salons. Call around and ask for quotes. Be sure to find out if alterations are additional and what the cap would be. My co-worker got her dress at RK Bridal in NYC-they will beat any quoted price by 5%.

By calling around and visiting bridal salons, I found my dress for about $ 150 less than first price quoted. And, alterations are included!!

Hope this helps!!

I did. Saw my dress at Estelles in Farmingdale and my salon matched the price. Check it out! Saved $$
The dresses at Estelles are nice. My MOH got hers there but I wanted someplace that did alterations.
Good luck!

Re: Can you negotiate wedding gown price? - YES! (this is my long story)

Absolutely!

I actually got my gown for almost half the price on the tag - and I didn't really even try to!

My gown was on the manequin the day I went to the salon and I fell in love with it as soon as I walked in. When I saw the price I told my salesperson not to even bring it in for my to try on -- too upsetting. BUt she brought it in anyway (of course). I put it on and almost cried - it was beautiful! But I told the lady it was not in my budget. She walked away, and then returned, telling me she'd take $500 off the price. I told her I still couln't do it. I tried on probably 20 more gowns and left empty handed.

Then I returned to the salon a couple weeks later to try on some more and she brought my gown in again just so I can compare it to other gowns. I put it on a second time and cried once more. Again she left, came back and said she'd take off another $500! At this point I had found one or two other gowns that I was happy with and I couldnt see spending $1000 more on the first gown where there were two others that I would be happy with.

I went home to think about it and a couple weeks later returned, all ready to purchase one of the other gowns (which was $1000 less than the first one -- and it was a beautiful Lazaro gown). I put on the Lazaro just to make sure, and I did love it. But the sales person brougth back gown #1 again just so I could compare again. I guess she saw the look on my face - I knew I liked this gown better. Once more, she walked away to make a phone call to the designer, returned and said she could sell it to me for only $300 more than the Lazaro.

After all of that I walked away with my dream gown for $2000 off the ticket price!

Moral of this story: Never buy your gown for ticket price....they are marked up like crazy (which makes me soooo angry...)

good luck!

Thanks for your help ladies! And good for you Sara! I feel a little better now. I've been to the salon twice so far and the saleslady knows I'm in love with this dres, but I keep telling her I have to think about it. I'll be going back there again and see what can be done.
