If it's return receipt - no, b/c someone has to be there to sign for it.

I don't believe so, b/c someone has to sign for it. Check with your local PO and ask, though.

that's what I thought, but wouldn't the post office then leave a sign in the PO box saying they had to go to the desk to sign for something? you'd think the USPS website would be easier to navigate.

ETA: I called 1-800-ASK-USPS - you CAN send certified mail to a PO Box...
