We have budgeted for the wedding but do not have an extra $2,000 lying around for tips. Since you get the pictures and video later is it ok to tip right after the honeymoon? I mean we didn't even get the final product yet so I don't think it's that bad. Do you have to tip on the wedding day?
Also for other vendors would sending a tip right after the wedding be bad? We will be tipping the maître d and the venue that day since we will not be going back but I just wanted to get opinions.

I'm not sure of proper etiquette but I believe you would tip at the time for services rendered and to show your appreciation for their services. It would be like getting your hair done and then going back a few weeks later to tip them. I'm sure they would appreciate a tip at any time though.

I agree most probably expect it day of. But is it possible for you to maybe give them a Check dated for a few days after the wedding, to give you some time to deposit gifts to help cover it? I mean I don't know what 'proper etiquette' would say about that, but technically it would solve the problem. And I would personally prefer to give a postdated check as a tip then to be ripping open envelops at the reception to hand out. lol

You have time... Maybe get a second job to cover your tips and emergencies... Thats what I'm doing. I'm busy but we have a better financial cushion.

I think most expect it the day of and may be upset if the night comes and goes without a tip. If you feel like you have a good relationship with some of your vendors maybe you can tell them you plan on tipping them after. Post dating the check could work or I know sometimes brides and grooms actually open up a few envelopes in the bridal suite and take cash out of those for tips..or if you have family giving a monetary gift maybe you could ask for it early to cover tips?

On post-dated checks.....Because your check is what is called 'negotiable instrument,' the bank where the check is being cashed can cash it before the date written on the face of the check.

You should do what you can afford not what any website says to tip. The most important people to tip are the bridal attendant & m.d.. A little for the photo guy and mc.. Your paying a good amount for their services & there's always a profit in that. Don't stress over it and do what you can afford.

I don't know why we can't tip the photographer & videographer after. I mean, I'd like to at least see some of my pictures before I give them a tip. What if they are crap?

I tipped based on what I could afford. It definitely adds up. I used a guideline and then tweeked it along the way. I believe vendors expect you to tip at the end of the night just like any other service.
