Oh you can cancel...I think its 6 months before the wedding that you can cancel. Suffolk has one of the best rules and should say it on your contract somewhere.
If not just call them and ask about their cancellation policies... just tell them you are interested in their facility.

Re: canceling a reception hall
it probably depends on where you're booked. i know mine will only give back the deposits if they can rebook another party for the same day. or some crap like that. i would check your contract or call anonymously and ask. i'm sneaky like that, i'll do it for you!

Which hall is it? There might be someone here who had the same problem that might know the policy for that hall

They can hold your $$ until it is rebooked but ultimately they have to give it to you if you cancel at least 6 months prior to your event.

Re: canceling a reception hall
the only thing that they are allowed to keep before the 6month mark is $100 if the hall is in suffolk

going thru the same thing right now.....do your cancellation letter in writing. suffolk co law states that if it is more than six months till your booked date they canonly keep $100. If they give you any trouble....notify suffolk county consumer affairs...they are helping me right now...FM if you need any more info....just curious...which hall...FM me

Read over your contract very, very good. Ask to speak to the owner.
