Does anyone have any experience with canceling a wedding? There's nothing wrong with FH and I, I'm just starting to second guess having the wedding in NY - FH and I live in Maryland. FH was never thrilled with the idea of having the wedding in NY to begin with. On top of that our wedding is a Sunday night in January :/
From some research I've done I know Suffolk has laws for this, but unfortunately my venue is in Nassau (Jericho Terrace.) So far we've only put a deposit down and we're 9 months out. Any help/input is very much appreciated! TIA!

Re: Canceling a wedding...?
I'd re-read your contract very carefully! Nassau does NOT have any of those laws in place and you COULD owe them for your entire wedding. You might be off the hook if they rebook it. All I could find on the subject was the few links below:
Definitely re-read your contract. I believe if you give your venue enough notice to re-book you should be able to get a full reimbursement. If not you, could lose the deposit. Good luck!!!

Canceling a wedding...?
I cancelled a wedding a few years back. We had booked the Riviera in Massapequa. We had given them $5000. Deposit and when the date was rebooked they gave me back $3000 (in cash) and a credit for the balance if I ever book them for something else.
Good luck!

I think you just have to read your contract, Nassau does not have any laws protecting you. If they book that date you may only lose the deposit but you may be responsible for everything if the date goes unbooked. I would call them and explain your concerns and see what they say will happen and if anything could be done. Good Luck!

Thanks for the advise ladies! I just spoke with JT and if the date gets rebooked I'm out $1000 and credited the rest of the money.

. What happens if it doesn't get booked? I am guessing this is why people have tried to get rid of their place on here with their date

If I read the contract correctly if you cancel & they do not rebook it says you waive your right to a nonjury trial. I am pretty sure that means they can try to go after you for the money but I'm not positive. Maybe ask them? Or have an attorney read it.

If it doesn't get booked at an equal or greater value then I'm responsible.
