I was scheduled to be married at the Chateau Briand on July 2nd. Due to the recession, my fiance and I decided to cancel the wedding, and just get married at City Hall. I cancelled with the Chateau Briand in November, and was informed that unless they were able to book out the day we would not be refunded. My now husband did get in touch with the Chateau and they were unable to book teh date. Does anyone have any advice on how I could get my deposit back or part of it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Cancellation Help
I'm sorry, but I really don't think they will give you back your deposit. It's hard enough in Suffolk where there IS a law to get back the deposit, so Nassau would be really difficult..Sorry

No unfortunatley since July 2nd is this Thursday and they still haven't booked you are out of your deposit. Like the PP stated it is only in Suffolk where they can give it back to you. Nassau is not like that and I don't think you will ever see you deposit.

Re: Cancellation Help
I know someone else posted about a similar situation. Their hall said they would refund 25% of what has already been paid if they couldn't get someone to fill the date. Try to negotiate some money back from the hall, but there may not be too much that you can do especially with signing a contract, etc.

Re: Cancellation Help
Are you talking about this July 2nd or 2010?

Re: Cancellation Help
In Nassau County there are different laws than in Suffolk...in Suffolk the law is that if you cancel before 6 mos of the date they have to give you your full deposit back...regardless of whether they book the date or not. If you cancel after that within a certain amount of time they are allowed to keep $100 of it. I'm so sorry but In Nassau I think the law says that they can keep your deposit if they can't book the date within a certain amount of time. Maybe contact a lawyer that can help you get some of it back depending on how much you put down or could you reconsider and book a date for later?

Re: Cancellation Help
We have the same problem. We were suppose to get married on September 12, 2010 at Chateau Briand - DaVinci Room, but had to cancel due to some personal family reasons. We cancelled on April 20, 2010. We got a letter back stating that if they cannot find someone to book that day, we will get nothing back. Unfortunately, we had to put a lot in and cannot even get a penny back. This really sux! :( If anyone know of any possible way to get something back, please do let us know! Thanks so much in advance!
For all those future brides-to-be out there, just a suggestion - ask about cancellation policy for your RH and have it in writing!

Re: Cancellation Help
why don't you try and sell your date to another bride at a significantly lower cost and recover something?

Re: Cancellation Help
I believe you can give your date to someone, now how do you have proof that the hall hasnt booked something for that day?

Re: Cancellation Help
Maybe send someone in pretending to be interested in that date to find out if its available?
