Hi girls.. So I had signed a contract for a room block with one hotel and now I realized that a diffferent hotel is nicer, cheaper, and a minute closer to the reception. Does anyone know what happens if you cancel a room block??

Call the hotel and find out. I know that with the place we got the block, if we only blocked off 15 rooms, we could cancel with no penalty and did not have to guarrantee any minimum. If we blocked more than 15, we would be obligated for half the blocked amount of rooms.
It's worth asking and explaining. Especially this early, it may be fine.

Re: Cancelling a Room Block
It depends on the contract you signed. Most hotels will just release the rooms back to be booked by other guests. However, there are a few that require you to put a credit card down - they could charge you when/if you cancel.
Why not just book 2 blocks of rooms at different price points? That's what we did.
