cancelling wedding - deposit ?? (edited w correct location)

A friend of mine had to unfortunately cancel her wedding for Sept 2012. The hall will not given her back her deposit unless they book the date.
I have read about a Suffolk County law that overrides this?? Am I corrrect.
Can anyone confirm this or has info to back it up?
TIA ladies

I'm going to retract a bit since I am geographically challenged! LOL

The place is the Inn at New Hyde Park but I realize now that it is in Nassau.

Do they have any similar laws to Suffolk or is she SOL?

You are correct. If the hall us in Suffolk, they give it all back and keep $100 I think as long as it is more than 6 months prior to the date

that's so awful that they're trying to scam her during a rough time. thankfully the law is on her side!

I believe this is the law. If for some reason it doesn't open to it its under chapter 237 on the left.

I found it on an older post.

I had this situation with Chateau La Mer...hopefully its not them...if it is, the road to receiving the deposit back will not be an easy one.

They should be giving her everything back except $100, if they rebook her date she gets 100% back.

Pretty sure she's SOL.

i mean i hate to say it, but thats what a deposit is for. we all give it knowing that it is non-refundable unless they can rebook the room.

that being said, i could almost guarantee that someone will book for sept 2012 at the Inn. that place is amazing and popular and they should have no problem getting the deposit back.

Agreed. She should find out if INHP will take care of re-selling the date or if she has to do it. If she has to do it herself, she (or you) should post on here and the 2012 board, you might find some takers!

thanks ladies! I keep telling her they will book no problem but I think it's the uncertainty for her right now.

Sept 7th 2012 if anyone wants a beautiful wedding at NHP
