Re: Cancun/Riviera Maya...
FM me if you have any other questions. I've been to Cancun several times and love it. In fact, my FH and I are going back there this summer as our one year to wedding trip.

Re: Cancun/Riviera Maya...
If this is your first time to Mexico (no offense to prior bride, but dont go for Thai food), I walked past the restaurant and it is very romantic, but you will be in Mexico, dont miss a great opportunity to taste real Mexican food. (Not actually found in the tourist area).
If you are not affraid to venture to downtown cancun, there are tons of really good Mexican restaurants (I think one is called El Novillo) or something to that extent. Ask your front desk person, taxis can take you or take the bus and walk a few blocks
Also try to do the Cenotes tours, the snorkeling tours, and make sure not to stop and talk to the people at the door of the airport (they are timeshare sellers) and will suck your time like vampires.
Also for buying nick nacks to bring home do not I repeat do not go to La Isla, its nice but it has mall prices, ask about the markets and your hotel should be able to let you know. La Isla does have a very cool interactive acuarium and its only 15 bucks.
\ Have fun, I loved it...thus far it has been my all time favorite vacation!

I agree, go to downtown Cancun, it's reminds me of the Vegas strip and also go on the Jungle tour, i just got back from Cancun. I didn't really like Isla Mujeres to much, the water was very rough and everyone (like 50 ppl) got sick.

I just have to say...I travel all around the world...it's my passion. I've been to Cancun 7 times...going on 8. I agree...eat Mexican food...go to the middle of the L Strip...not downtown (not as safe), but going to the Thai Restaurant was one of the most romantic experiences I have ever had on vacation. Everyone I recommended it to absolutely agreed. Don't go there every night, but definitely try to make it there once. You have a private hut on the water with a private waitress. It's amazing!!!!!! The hut has a table plus a couch you could lay down on in between courses.

I've been to Cancun more times than I can count, and spent a summer there living downtown. It is ok to venture downtown- it is safe, but you just have to be smart- like anywhere. It's very commercialized downtown now- Walmart, malls, etc. Go to Mercado 28 for local shopping. Also check out La Parilla Restaurant on Avenue Yaxchilán downtown. YUM!

Coba Mayan Adventure!!!! We did that one. It was a long excursion but so worth it. You zip line, rappel, kayak, eat a traditional mayan meal. You also climg the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan Peninsula called Nohoch Muul. Check it out at alltournative.com!

Re: Cancun/Riviera Maya...
I loved Isla Mujeres, I went twice, it's got a lot of character. My best friends parents were married there. Loved restaurant Labla....it's a little tricky to find in Downtown, but really good authentic food. The Yucatan cuisine is just yummy. There is also a public park with food and music at night nearby. If you go to Tulum, go early, and take a swimsuit, you can go swimming right by the ruins. I would take a private car and get there when it opens, it gets hot and crowded later! Same, even more so for Chichen Itza. If you are not locked into staying in Cancun the whole time, I would overnight in Valliadolid, and take a taxi to the ruins in the AM. It is so nice the first hour before the buses come, while there is shade, then it is hot and crowded. I think if you take the tourist buses which get you there at 11 am, the sun and crowds are unbearable.(to me at least, I burn easily) Take the bus in Cancun, everyone does, it's totally safe. And for what it's worth, I ate everything everywhere and never got sick. I also really liked Merida, but it's almost 5 hours away. If you have 2 weeks, I would consider branching out in that direction. The cenotes are a must! With all of the ruins, you can hire a private guide once inside for about 20$ I would go that route , as opposed to going with a group. Have fun!

I am soo pist I missed this A great restaurant to go to in the Riviera is Alux. it was soo romantic and underground in cenote caves Tons of nooks and hideways and separate area for lounge and bar and than a club like atmosphere in another part. A girl came out and danced with a snake - soo neat
Go to 5th ave In the Riviera that was also soo fun. So much to do. My favorite was Parrot Beach - indoor outdoors and a fire show that was most incredible Ladies night drinks are free on wknds I am pretty sure. Cover charge to walk in $10 for the couple and a tix for 2 free beers on arrival. My feet were killing me so It was soo nice to put my feet in the sand at this place - swings at the bar too.
zipline was the best! Centoe Cave snorkeling and diving is also a neat excursion. We did both on one tour in the same place. FM me for more info.
