Candle centerpiece questions

Hi ladies -

I'm an 08 bride but wanted to post this here too since those already married may have had candle centerpieces and could help me. I am planning on doing candle centerpieces, with a pillar candle in the middle of a hurricane vase. I don't want to spend a ton of money here, but I do want quality candles that will last for the whole reception and will also burn well and not melt all over the place. I used to sell partylite candles and I know their quality is great, but I don't want to spend that much ... anyone have any ideas? Maybe martha stewart candles?

Also, does anyone have any good ideas for what I can put at the bottom of the hurricane vases? I don't want to use marbles as I think it looks too contemporary. I am having a fall theme.

TIA!

Re: Candle centerpiece questions

IKEA candles are really great.

They have a long burn time, are unscented, and are dripless.
Come in a variety of sizes, and in white and ivory.
They just started making floor candles.
I think now they have some darker colored candles with a sort of rustic look to them, might look good with the coffee beans, although the ivory would be a nice contrast.

Best of all, they are not expensive.
Buy some and burn them to see if they are to your liking.

there is a pic in my eparty album - we did candle centerpieces in a hurricane vase........we got the vases in AC Moore for $2 each and the candles we got at National Wholesale Liquidators for like $2 each as well - then we used blue and white seaglass.....the candles were lit for 5 hours and we actually took some home - they barely looked burned.....

Thanks! I wanted to look at IKEA to see what they had for vases so now I can look for both. :)

Thanks! $2 a vase is a VERY good price. Going to look at your album now!

Re: Candle centerpiece questions

I am doing a candle centerpiece as well. Although I love flowers, I also love candles and the look they will give the place. I figured this was a good place to cut back the costs.

My mom is pretty crafty so I entrusted her to make them. She made up samples using seashells inside or around the outside and on another she used some wreath making stuff that looked like twigs with leaves and berries on them. They were all really nice, but she found these feather wreaths at Home Goods and went crazy buying them up as they stocked them. My colors are brown and blue so she bought a candle in the shade of blue I am using from IKEA. I have to take pictures of it. This is what the wreath looks like and the hurricane glass fits perfectly in the circle.

I love that idea! Please, take pics and show us! I am going to be playing around with mine this weekend and will definitely upload photos! I am going to do a coffee bean / gold candle one, one filled with pinecones (might look nice on top of colorful leaves ... not sure) and one that is filled with beaded garland all mixed up and just stuffed inside, like this.
