Candy Buffet!

Anyone who did a candy buffet for guests - how did you figure out how much candy to have for everyone? I've heard a lot of differing opinions, but there's no general consensus. I love candy so I wouldn't mind TERRIBLY if I had to hold onto extras but I also don't want to go crazy overboard
