Can't decide on anything! How long do you need to plan??
I am having such a hard time deciding on anything. I just got engaged Christmas Eve and I'm already torn between a summer nautical wedding and a very elegant winter wedding. I can't decide if I want to do it this year or next. How long do I really need to plan my wedding. Any tips or input would be great. Thanks!

Congrats. To be honest it is an overwhelming process at the beginning. I think you should sit down with FH and discuss possible themes and budget. Once you get an idea of both you can start looking into halls. I believe once you book your ceremony site and reception site. Things start falling into place.
I have seen wedding planned in anywhere between six months and eighteen months.
It is all up to the bride and the type of affair you are planning.

did you mean plan your wedding for this summer? although i am partial to the summer, i am not sure you will have vendors readily available to you at this point...i could be very wrong, and i have known people who have planned weddings in few motnhs...def possible, but for me that would create too much stress...do you have a favorite time of year? and most of all CONGRATS on your engagement!!!

It takes time to get things in order. Once you decide on your theme and your budget then you can figure out your hall and what you want. But planning is patience take your time and things will fall into place

First of all Welcome & Congratulations on your engagement
The entire wedding planning process can be a bit stressful at times. You should sit down with your FH and talk about the kind of wedding that you both want. Once you make up your minds, the fun begins. As for a time line I have seen people plan gorgeous weddings in four months and some other people it took a year or more to plan there perfect wedding. i also think that for this summer it would be hard. MANY Rh's and vendors haven't already been booked for a long time. If you go on the 08 boards you'll see most of us booked all this over a year ago and some even longer. You can find things im sure but you're really gonna have to do alot of research and running around. If you're ok with this then go for it but its gonna be quite some work.
Try for maybe december of 08 if anything or beginning of 09 if you want winter wedding...For summer maybe 09 would be better

It depends, there have been girls on here that planned their weddings in 4 months. So its possible to do it in a short amount of time-but I think the shorter time you havet o plan the more flexible you need to be with what you want as compared to what you will actually get and receive. I would decide which you both like better, talk to FH and see what he thinks.
We had 2 1/2 years to plan but more so b/c we had 3 wedding in 06 and wanted at least a year, so we moved to 07. Its personal choice and if your budget and money allows you to do it sooner rather then later.

very true i do know girls who planned it in a few months. If you can do this then go for it, for me i just couldn't hahaha too much pressure but everyone is different.
if you're not set on particular vendors then it will be alot easier
and yeah budget is a big thing too, the less time the faster you have to come up with the money

honestly it all depends. i got in engaged in november...and started most of my planning in january(except the RH...that we booked right away)... honestly - a year is good...but dont stress out. Peolple do it in the matter of time they're given.i have a close friend who planned their wedding in 2months!!! u'll be fine..just know that awesome vendors do book quickly - especially in peak seasons... so if u're adament about getting a great photographer/makeup artist/reception hall, u should start planning soon...but no stress!!
