Of course we all want everything, but my mom and FH are telling me I need to cut back something!
I want to have plasma tvs and the DJ I'm leaning towards says it would work better with 3 screens (1 in front, 2 in back). I told her I only wanted the one up front, but she told me it might be hard for people to see. They are at my hall all the time so I know they know the place and I know of course they just want me to spend more money.
I also want to have a live percussionist during the reception. I just think it would be a lot fun! FH thinks drums aren't necessary and mom thinks the tvs aren't necessary.
I was just wondering who is having/has had either tvs and/or live instruments and who thinks it's worth it in the end. Any advice!?

Re: Can't Decide...(DJ Dilema)
glad you are finally posting!!
in the end we went with no screens b/c it's a daytime wedding and we were afraid that there would be too much glare for people to see, but i think all you really need is 2 screens near the dj booth for it to work, you don't really need any more than that.
and i loooooove the idea of a percussionist! if it's not too much more than go for it. YOU ONLY GET MARRIED ONCE!
(don't you love how i'm spending your mom's money lol...)

Although the wedding is off I still am keeping my dj for the fundraiser....but when picking the dj I really thought that the music is so important and that the better the music, the more fun the guests have!
My original package was two plasmas, 7 hours of music, live drummer, and live sax player...I thought it was all awesome and wouldn't have changed it! I am still keeping the live music for the fundraiser but dropping the tvs and going with 4 hours of music. I stil love the idea of the music!

LOL...at least someone replied!
Well I would love to have 2 screens, but since they are at the harbor club so much they have a custom made trelis for the lights and it has one 42' plasma tv on top in the center and then they tell you to get 2 more tvs in the back, by the sweetheart table, so people can see the pics from every angle. Of course that would be ideal, but it's a lot of money. i told her that i only wanted the 1 on top and she wasn't pushy, but she explained how all 3 are better. of course they are better, but not always in a budget.
if FH's parents would decide to offer something or at least let us know what they are thinking of offering i might be able to get it without worrying or know a little better what my budget is! my mom is getting pissed!
my mom really likes the percussion. she saw it at a friends wedding and said it was fun. she doesn't think screens are necessary though. and you know FH, less is more with him!

We're having two plasmas. We loved how they show the picture montage and my dj will also play the music videos that go with some of the songs he will be playing during the reception, as well as, live simulcast of pictures taken during the reception will be put up on the screen.
It's all a preference really. Is the room that big that you need 3? Can you do it with 2 instead?
If you have the money, then go for what you want. Ultimately, it's about you and your FH!

I'm so sorry to hear about your wedding!
I agree that music is such a big part of a wedding, it can make or break it! I think the live instruments are a fun addition to it also. Maybe the screens aren't as important, but they are a nice touch.

Re: Can't Decide...(DJ Dilema)
Any other DJ's that offer ceremony/CH musicians, live reception musicians and screens?
Not all of the ones I've seen have the live musicians and FH & I want that for the ceremony/CH. TIA!

I think that 1 screen is fine. If people want to see, they will move to see. As for the percussionist. Have you ever heard it done? I originally wanted it but, I saw it at a showcase and didnt like it at all.

I think one 42' screen is big enough and like you said, people will move to see!! I haven't personally heard the percussionist live, they just showed us the video, but my mom saw this particular guy at a wedding a few months ago and liked it. She's the one pushing me towards the drums! lol

If you have to have one or the other, definitely do the percussionist. Also, the last wedding I was at had one screen and it was totally fine.

I’m not having any kind of TV at my wedding and I know it would be a disaster if I did. When I was a kid, I was only allowed to watch 30 mins of TV a week and now I’m like totally making up for it! Whenever theres a TV on, I will just stare, lol—if I had a TV at my wedding, I would be a zombie the whole time!

LOL...thanks for the advice!
I might go with the percussionist over the tvs if i can't have both. i have to call the dj and tell them i only want the 1 screen and see what happens with the price!

we're having two plasmas. and I want the live instruments too! fh of course thinks like your fh that it isn't necessary. with our dj I think it's like $800 more so we'll see. I'd wait for a few months, see how your budget is going then decide. that's what we're doing. then we're gonna see about little extra things like that.

I am having a live percussonist and every wedding I ever went to that had one defiently sticks out in my mind.
To tell you the truth I don't like the plasma screens at a wedding. I think it is ver sweet 16ish and it just is not my taste.
If I had to pick one or the other it would be the live percussionist, thay add so much to the reception

Re: Can't Decide...(DJ Dilema)
We're having 2 and our room is big and have over 300 guests, definitely dont think there would be a need for 3 plasma's and it was never even suggested. I would say either get 2 or get 1 depending on your room. Is the 3rd one extra money? well that will explain why its being pushed on you but don't think you should ever be felt that you HAVE to pay extra for something
I am also having percussionist and sax. I personally just love the percussion thing. Do i think it will make or break your wedding of course not. Ive gone to MANY weddings where they had no percussionist and you don't even pay attention to that. Most infact that ive been to didn't have it and it was a great wedding regardless lol and not once did i think oh they didn't get the live instruments? Its just personal choice and do whatever you feel comfortable with and what you like, don't feel pressured to do anything you don't want, your wedding will be amazing with or without it
