CANT FIND A DRESS.. I'M SOO STUCK - UPDATE!!!! I FOUND IT (WITH PICS)!!!!

Sorry this is long but...I need some kind of advice or something...

Okay... so my wedding is 6 months away and I've been to like 7 salons so far. I have about 5 gowns that stick out in my mind that I can definitely remember... I LOVE only one and its above my price range.

I just cannot spend that money on a dress. I can't!!! It might not seem like much to many people but $3000 is too for me, considering we have a budget.

Anyway, the other 4, I ALMOST LOVE and they are well within my price range. ... and i think maybe if I go back and try some on I might just totally fall in love with one of them???/ ... maybe??...

I am also going nuts because I cannot figure FH out! Everytime I try to feel him out on his tastes on a dress.. I get him going in a different direction. For example, I'll show him a ball gown with pleats one day and he'll say it was ugly.. then I'll show him another similiar ball gown with pleats another day and he'll say he liked it... Then he saw an alfred angelo (who i nevertheless love) in the wedding guide that had pink accents in it and he loved it... I HATED IT!!! It has a corset back.. which I hate!!!

I want him to love my dress and I want to hurry up and find one already... :

Is it really true that you have to LOVE your dress... anyone bought a dress they were just happy with... but weren't gushing over?

i dont know if to keep shopping or take a break for a while...or just buy one of the 4 I was happy with... I'm stuck.

Help!

UPDATE: HERE IT IS... I TRIED IT ON LIKE 4 TIMES AT THREE DIFF PLACES... AND MY SISTERS LOVE IT!!! NEVER GOT THE 'ITS THE ONE FEELING' LIKE.. ALL AT ONCE LIKE I WAS EXPECTING... IT SORT OF KINDA CREPT UP ON ME.. I'D BE HOME DOING THE DISHES AND THINKING ABOUT THE DRESS... AND THEN IT SORTA HIT ME... WAIT A MINUTE.. EVERYWHERE I GO, I KEEP TRYING ON THE SAME DRESS????!!!! DUH???!!! I AM SO EXCITED... I'M ORDERING IT THIS WEEKEND.

did you try rk bridal?

Re: CANT FIND A DRESS.. I'M SOO STUCK

have you gone to david's bridal? true, their customer service is nothing to be impressed by... but if time and money are an issue, it's worth it. they have such a wide selection of truly beautiful dresses. i only tried on 7 dresses all together, but the one i wound up with... i KNEW it was the one. and it was 1100 to start with, which is a great price, but it wound up being on sale and i got it, plus my slip and corset for 800.
i looked through many bridal magazines as well as this site after i got my dress and even though i saw many beautiful dresses, i never found one that i loved more than my dress.
as far as your FH loving it... don't let that stress you. just concentrate on what YOU like and what makes you feel comfortable and beautiful. trust me, no matter what he says he likes or doesn't like in magazine... he is going to think you're the most beautiful thing in the world, in the most beautiful gown in the world, once he sees you walking down that aisle. trust me. if i were you, i'd stop asking his opinions and concentrate on your own opinion... because if you feel beautiful, that will radiate outwards through your day.
if you want, go back and try on those dresses... otherwise, just keep on treking to some more bridal places. you'll find THE dress. you will.

Definitely try RK, they have a great selection in a number of price ranges. You could also try contacting them to see if they have a better price on the dress you love.

I second RK Bridal! I tried dresses on in many salons on LI, liked a lot of the dresses, but didn't love any dress.

I went to RK Bridal (I'd suggest going during the week, earlier in the day, weekends, holidays and evening are VERY busy there! They also only let you try on 5 dresses on the weekendsand holidays). I found a dress that I LOVED!!!! And it was well within my budget also. Once I found the dress I wanted, I ordered it through Burtons which was much cheaper then RK Bridal, even with having the train made into a catherdal train!

Good luck to you.

I went to probably 15 or more salons ... also FH was not involved in picking out my dress at all. I went with what I loved. If he doesn't like it, he better keep his mouth shut Just keep looking. I went to stores in CT, NJ, Long Island and just kept trying anything on they they brought me. The dress I ended up loving was something I didn't even want to try on.

I've heard of Burton's. That might be a great route. I'll try RK one more time.

I am glad FH want's nothing to do with any dress. I tried to do that and he gave a great sudgestion then he looks at me and says leave me out of it because i honestly don't care. So it works out best that way. Pick what you love... when i finally do go dress shopping i will do it myself the first time have a norrowed down selection of maybe two dresses then bring in my mom, 2 sister in law and thats it.

Go for what you can afford deff. every bride that went for a 3k dress that i know of kicked themself after the wedding. They love it in the pic and wearing it but after that they preserved it then years later donated it to a thrift store and made no $$$.

did you try contacting the designer for the dress you love? sometimes they have sample sales and trunk shows which would save you a ton of $. my friends sister got her $5000 dress at bergdof's for $400.

I was in the exact same situation.

I even had a thread about how I couldn't find a dress.

I was just about to give up and settle on a dress but then I found it. The key is to dedicate a lot of time and effort into trying on a lot of dresses at different salons.

Good luck. I know how you feel.

I am sorry you are having such difficulties with this.

Honestly, my friend & I went dress shopping together and by the 3rd dress, all I heard from her was 'this is your dress Trisha' and well, I loved it too. I felt like a princess.

Beleive me when I say that you will know when it is the one for you. You just know it! FH was not involved with my selection. I totally want it to be a surprise and well, tough sh** if he does not like it. He is not the one wearing it!

Also I am sure you have found that things that may look nice in the magazines and that you love, may not be the ones that you love when they are on. Do you know how many dresses I tried on the 2nd time I went shopping and disliked many of them when they were on but loved them in the magazines.

Good luck with your search. Just keep on going and I am sure you will find something that you like.

Re: CANT FIND A DRESS.. I'M SOO STUCK

Okay Im not going to say which store i worked in...but I worked at a VERY popular bridal store here on LI. I worked there long enough to tell you these tips that I told all the brides that I worked with. I have sold plenty of dresses to brides who cried to me or had anxiety attacks in the store. I have witnessed terrible verbal attacks on mother of thebrides, mother of the groom and maid of honors. I have had brides who brought there entire family..of about 15 people or more and those were always a disaster, I had brides who actually
brought there fh's with them to sit in the waiting room for hours at a time!! Some of this stuff is alittle humerous but at the time very stressful, that is why i am no longer there ......okay here it is

1. IF you must go with someone else, do not bring more then two girls with you at one time. Preferably bring your mother and moh and that is it. TOO many opinions can get you frusterated!!

2. Do NOT go into a bridal store with your mind set on a 100% perfect gown, high standards will always give you anxiety. Remember that you will find a beautiful dress and to relax.

3. If you have your heart set on something that you saw in a magazine..definatly try it on...but 90% of the time you will find a different dress that you like better.

4.TRY NOT to try on more then 6 or 7 dress at one time. GIve yourself some time to sleep on it and think about what you liked about the dresses. Stay on the positive side.

5. Bridal stores mostly can offer you at least 10% off of any dress! Let them know you saw it for cheaper and they should be able to match it. Call about trunk shows and surely you will get your dress for sooooo cheap.

6. IF you LOVE LOVE a dress and nothing else will do and its way over budget....hire someone to make it for you, two of my friends have done this and for half the price or less. If you are interested (fm me I can give you a reputable name )

7. I always told my brides never to talk about the dress with there fh's because no matter what as long as you are happy fh is going to be happy, no matter what, you will look absolutely stunning in your dress. If you like it he will love it!! ( have you ever looked at a picture of a bride and thought negative things? I havent!! not many people do)

Good luck!!

Re: CANT FIND A DRESS.. I'M SOO STUCK

Ok, This is a very stressful situation, I am sorry that you have to deal with it. I actually wound up buying a dress for 3300 dollars, because out of all the dresses that I tried, I LOVED this dress, and it was more than double my price range, lol! I know that money is never simple. I suggest trying to find your dress the one you love for a cheaper price. GownFind.com can get almost any designers dress for wholesale prices!!! Try them. I called them and they gave me a great price for the BM dresses I want for my girls, almost 100 dollars less than Macy's bridal salon.

Also, I wanted to mention that getting fashion opinions from men is like trying to get water out of a stone, lol! Try not to let this make you upset. You should go with the dress that when you try it on you feel like a queen...

If at all possible, be flexible, but I agree with you, if you are on a strict budget and you cannot go over a certain price, then keep looking. If you can work with your budget, then do, you will be happy you did

i knew about their service so i just ignored it. my dress came in in a month, i picked it up and took it elsewhere for alterations, so i didn't have to deal with them much

Re: CANT FIND A DRESS.. I'M SOO STUCK

The first piece of advice, is stop asking you FH about dresses. Mine saw one in the window of David's Bridal which he said he didn't like at all, and then we went to a wedding where the bride was wearing almost the same dress and he was gushing about how beautiful she looked.

Second, don't settle. My sister was at the same point you are at only she went to 15 different bridal salons and tried on 100 dresses and didn't like any of them. One day we wandered into Helen's Wedding World on Austin Blvd in Commack, she put on a dress and started crying. She had finally found 'the one' for her.

Third, if you truly love that one dress that you can't afford, call Phyllis at gownfind, she can get many many designer dresses at a fraction of retail.

Fourth - don't give up!!

doing worrying about what your fH thinks about your dress. He shouldnt love your dress--he should love you! The fact that he is marrying you would be more important to him on your wedding day than what you're wearing.

Have you looked at demetrios? they have pretty nice stuff below the 3000 range. plus there are always opportunities to get 10-15% off.
