Okay so I found my dress and I love it! But every time I went shopping i just wanted to concentrate on the dresses but my MOH/mom/MOH's mom kept finding accessories to put on me lol. Now I guess the next step is to find a veil.
So when i asked the lady at the bridal shop about it she just flat out told me 'you can't wear a plain veil.' Can someone please explain this to me?
Of course i can't trust my mom's opinion because she keeps wanting me to go bigger and fancier with all of my wedding choices. (My venue is not nice enough, my dress is not detailed enough, you need a fuller skirt and full video coverage and expensive favors etc etc etc). So of course she wants the crystal rhinestone accents and the $200+ veil.
Now if that's what you want for your wedding, I have no problem with it, but i am not a girly girl at all. I never have been, and i never will be. I hardly ever wear accessories besides my engagement ring. The thought of spending hours searching for a piece of tulle make me yawn. Not to mention the fact that we want to buy a house and i am saving every last morsel I can for that.
But no one else I know sees this my way!! Now they are making me worried that people will talk about me at my own wedding if my veil has no detailing.

you can buy affordable veils online (under $50) ... check ebay and etsy and a bunch of other stores!
i'm wearing a plain veil ... it's fingertip length and has a satin trim and that's it ...
don't waste your time, energy, and money on a veil that you'll only wear for an hour!

I am doing a plain veil. My mom was not happy with it because she wanted the expensive one with rhinestones, but I felt that it was not me and I went with my gut and got a plain one.

Coming from someone who often lets people talk her into things she doesn't want...
GET WHAT YOU WANT. And everyone else can shut it! Haha. This is the one day where it should really be about what you & FH want. If someone is petty enough to talk about how 'plain' your veil is behind your back on your wedding day, then they need to get a life. Maybe your mom is opinionated now, but I bet when you walk down that aisle looking beautiful (and more importantly, like YOURSELF) she won't be able to hold back the tears and it won't matter how fancy or plain the veil is.
I'm having similar issues with my dress. I can't decide on anything because I think no one will like the ones I like because they're not the typical 'bridal' look.
P.S. - 'Plain' can also translate to 'simple elegance' which I think is great!

I am wearing a plain veil. No satin, no rhinestones, nothing. Just simple. I say go for what YOU want.

I think it depends on your dress. If it's fairly simple w/minimal detailing your veil can be more intricate.
But if your dress has a lot going on (like mine) then you have to go with a plain veil.

of course you can wear a plain veil! hell, you don't even have to wear one at all if you don't want to.
My friend actually bought plain tulle and clipped it onto her head! lol. No one knew.
The key to this wedding thing is that YOU are happy. Remember this. Just sit mom down and say Mom, this will not make me happy.
15 years after my 1st wedding and I'm still resentful that I had my MOM's wedding and not my own. She starts now but shes shut down.
Trust me on this one.

If you don't want it don't get it, if you don't like veils, then don't get one either. A lot of brides don't even wear veils anymore. If you want to save money and go simple, there are ways to do it.
