Cant we just elope?

My sister is my MOH. She just a breast reduction and is finally getting excited about dress shopping. Since I have gotten engaged she hasnt cared about the title, now she does. I came home from work and she told me she wants to spend time with me and go looking for a dress just the 2 of us. i almost fell on the floor. My mom told her the 3 of us are going, we are both her daughters and she wants to be there. i had t ojust leave the room because it turned into a HUGE fight between them and i dont know what to do. i dont see whats wrong with the 2 of us spending some time together and looking. What do I do?

I think it is perfectly reasonable for you to go with just your sister. One thing is to proactively approach your mom (so that it is an offensive rather than defensive move) and say, 'Mom, I really am hoping to get closer with SIS over the buying of a dress and I would love for us to try and get to know each other better as adults.' Don't apologize or make demands of your mom as in 'Well, we are going alone' or 'Can we go' , rather present it as a fait accompli, but one that she benefits from (two daughters that become closer) I hope this makes sense.

Definately talk to your mom alone and let her know she can come the next time, but this time you need it to be you and your sis so you can bond. I went shopping for my dress with my mom and sis and it was a disaster. They fought the whole day. It ruined everything for what should have been 'my' day for once.
