Last night I was sort of hit by a car while attempting to cross the street. I was hit by the passenger side view mirror of a van. I was very lucky, I didnt fall, just have a bruised arm and my boob hurts. I did have the right of way(light said walk) and looked both ways, I dont know where she came out of and there was no way she could have not seen me. She stopped, but I think she gave me some bogus info, didnt give me complete plate number. I dont know why I didnt look in the back of the van, I was a bit disoriented. I did get her address from the license and her lic id# which I gave to the cops. She also showed me her insurance info. which she wrote down and gave me her policy #. She split before the cops came because she kept saying she had to go pick up her kid. The incomplete plate # was given to the cops but they couldnt find a match. They said they were going to the address she gave me and they were going to check out the ID #. Anyways, I do not have much experience with car insurance and wanted to know if I can call her insurance company to report what happened and see if they would at least cover my hospital expenses ( i had to take a ride on an ambulance to the nearest hospital). I dont know if my health insurance will cover stuff like this. Any suggestions? Any help is appreciated. TIA
ETA: I contacted the insurance company...Guess what? Not to my surprise, they cannot find anything on this woman. Plus the fact that the plate # is incomplete doesnt help. The claim number doesnt exist. Oh well, what can I do...I just thank God I'm ok. I will wait to speak with the officers who took the report and see if they got a chance to check out the address she gave me.

Yes, you can call her ins co to make a claim. They probably wont do anything until they get in touch with her, but you can get the ball rolling.
I can't believe that moron. At least you were not more seriously hurt.

If she didn't wait for the cops can that be the same as leaving the scene of an accident?
Glad you are OK

You should be covered under no fault!

Your own auto insurance will actually cover first for any medical bills you may have, so make sure you notify them first. They will handle getting in touch with the other insurance company and getting their money back from them through subrogation. You should not be responsible for any bills whatsoever. That is what no fault coverage is all about. Regardless of who is at fault in an accident, your own company pays first for your medical bills.
Glad to hear that you are not badly injured.

--- just talked to fh and he said no fault also... he said you should call up the ladys insurance and go straight through that, otherwise you can go through your coverage

Sorry about your accident! I can't believe some of the drivers out there!! What an idiot! Feel better! (hug)
Yes the posters are right. I was in a car accident and no-fault covered my physical therapy and hospital bill.
The moron who hit me went through a red light. I had the green light and proceeded to go and he hit me broadside. I had bad bruising and couldn't walk for 4 weeks (I had crutches). I had physical therapy for three weeks. It was some irresponsible 18 year old!

Ypur regular insuranc will see the diagnosis and claim and deny Call her insurance if you can if you cant or she is not covered you will need a letter to show your insurance company as proof! HOPE FOR A SPEEDY RECOVERU !

Thanks everyone for your concern and responses. I am feeling much better, still a little sore. I just wanted to clarify that I wasnt driving, I was a pedestrian who was hit...does the insurance thing make a difference, like, should I report it to my medical insurance? TIA

BOTH Call her insurance and submit it to your own insurance. No you're not committing fraud as along as you are honest and upfront with both sides. Tell your own health insurance you were involved in a car accident.. hit by car. You may have to give the policy report number.
Let her insurance company know you had to submit the bill immediately to yoru insurance company. Your insurance company should go after hers for reimbursement of the money THEY spent.
BUT REPORT THIS TO HER INSURANCE IMMEDIATELY. THere's an issue with how long it takes you to report a claim. So many fraud out there. You shoudl report as quickly as possible to avoid any doubt you made up your injuries or were talked into reporting your claim (haha like we're doing for you).
Go.. now pick up the phone call them, report it.
Glad overall you're ok. Did you see her headlights coming at you or did she prehaps turn into your road? You poor thing. Im terrified to cross a road if I even HEAR a car.
ETA: Its past midnight I shouldnt be answer these types of questions.. haha I can barely type.. good night! Call in yoru claim to her people is all I really wanted to say.. dont second guess it. Call it in.

Your auto insurance covers you for medical even if you are a pedestrian or if you are a passenger in someone else's vehicle. Your regular medical insurance will not cover for this sort of occurence. You should call your auto insurance company first.
I was a property and casualty agent for many years and dealt primarily with auto insurance and this is the sort of situation that no fault was meant for.
