He is 18 and has to pay way over 3K per year for insurance! Does anyone know where we can get a cheaper quote (tried geico, state farm, allstate, and a few others big ones). Thanks!
ETS: That price is for all the minimums!

Re: Car insurance question for my brother
Your brother is probably in the assigned risk pool due to his age and lack of driving experience (licensed less than 3 years). There is not much chance that any of the larger companies will insure him at a lower rate at this point.
My only suggestion would be to check around with different insurance brokers and agents and see if you can find anything cheaper. In addition when you are checking with agents or brokers make sure that they are not adding things he doesn't need. I have found in the past that some brokers add things like a theft recovery program, which they charge you additional money for, but which in fact has absolutely no value and is used for them to make money from. I know you said it was for minimum coverages. Not knowing the year of his car I can't tell you if theft or collision are necessary, but if his car is old, he needs liability insurance only. Make sure that is all he has.
Also if your brother has not taken a defensive driving course (not the course you need to get your license) have him take one asap. It will save him a lot of money, as will driver's ed if he took that in high school.
The good thing is his rates will go down as he gains driving experience and as he builds a safe driving record with one company. The bad news...it take a while. Sorry!
If you have any other questions please feel free to FM me.

Re: Car insurance question for my brother
When I was younger I went through Lighthouse Agency. I know there is one in Riverhead, SOuthampton and Westhampton. Maybe you can try there. They seem to have great rates.
I never put in a claim through them so I dont know how that is.

Try TRi-State Consumer Ins., he'll still pay more then someone who is 26 or 27 but it may be worth it to check it out.

Re: Car insurance question for my brother
Definetly cause hes a boy.
MY FH has stupid Speeding tickets on his license (he had his license Suspended for a month) he also has a major accident THAT WAS RULED NOT HIS FAULT Wich totaled his brand new car And he pays like 8000.00 a year I pay like 1800.00 a year and thats for everything. Its horrible but boys pay more because they are boys and it doesnt come down till they are 25. He has allstate and so do I.

Re: Car insurance question for my brother
Don't bother with Tri-State. I can tell you for a fact that they would not insure him. They have exceedingly strict underwriting guidelines and will not insure an 18 year old except as part of a parent's policy.
Unfortunately teenage boys are the largest risk group for auto insurance. They are involved in the majority of accidents that occur, which is why the rates are so high. I know it's rough, but really all he can do is shop different agencies. Good luck.

Re: Car insurance question for my brother
can he attach himself to your parent's policy? an 18 yr old male on his own policy is going to be put into the highest risk group.

Did that! The quotes were all so much
There was one that wasn't so bad. It was from Erie Insurance Company of NY. He is going to call there Monday (when they open) to get more information. Anyone have any experience with this company?
