I HAVE to have them for my next car. That and side curtain airbags. Those are my two requirements.

Antilock Break system. - it's makes the pedal vibrate when you start to slide.

Yes, this is true. My last car, I lied and told the insurance co. that my car did and they just believed me.

I haveit on my car and I thought all cars had it and it's so essential, now that I'm looking, most of these cars don't have it and you have to pay a lot to get it. I'm just scared to drive w/o it

I won't buy a car w./o it. It saved my life. It really helps prevent skidding. Also all the airbags I can jam into my car.

You are better off getting a car with all-wheel drive.
Like a Subaru (on a budget), an Audi (with Quattro), Infinity, or even an SUV with 4x4.
ABS is not all its cracked up to be IMO.

I don't know much about cars, and I dont go offrading. Thanks for the advice, Rich, but I can't afford anything with 4WD right now.

Its OK... but like I said I don't think its all its cracked up to be.
It would pay for itself though in insurance discounts over time... so its not like its costing you a lot so it doesn't hurt to have.
Most cars let your disable it anyways if you don't want it... some people don't like driving with it on.

You don't need AWD living in NY metro area... it's just a waste for the roads we live on.
ABS is a good safety feature to have but I don't think it's a MUST. I have a car now without ABS and it's fine. I just know for my next car I want it. If you can stretch your money, I'd do it.

I am curious to your reasoning why AWD is not needed for NYC over other parts of the country.
Last time I heard... the raindrops and snowflakes we get here... look drastingly similar to the ones found in two-shoes Iowa.

I agree with Rich that All wheel drive is a nice thing to have - it helps you keep traction in wet or icy weather.
I have had cars with and without ABS. Personally, I don't have a preference either way. It all boils down to being a conscientious driver who knows enough to pump the brakes if the car does not have ABS or just stomp on the pedal if you do.
