Does anyone use those blanket-type sack/bag (sorry don't know what the hell they're called) that goes on an infant car seat? I don't want to buy one b/c Lyla will be done with the infant carrier soon. Do they come in bigger sizes for a toddler seat.
I'm such a bad mommy. You can tell that Lyla was born in the summer since I don't even have a winter coat or a hat for Lyla yet, just a warm fall one with a hood. I don't want to get a full body snow suit, they seem so bulky and she's unhappy putting a jacket on as it is. If you use the blanket thingy on the carseat do you still need a coat?

Re: Car Seat Blanket Bags
Niha, I have to agree with the coat thing. I dont like coats too much myself. I do have 2 winter coats for him, and I havent used them for the same bulky reason I think a good fleece and a good hat will last them all winter. Ive been using a fleece sweatshirt or a sweatshirt-jacket type thing the past few weeks, but I'll need something warmer (like a bigger size fleece that covers most of his body, or a whole-body one-He had a great Lands End one last winter- head to toe in fleece! SOO WARM!)
So you dont need a coat at her age. No way. I cant imagine using a jacket under one year, its just so clumsy and annoying to them sweatshirts, blankets, and those fleece-snowsuit things are awesome. Warmer than a snowsuit and not HALF As bulky!

Niha last year I used a bunting for Emma. They make something like a snow suit that you put on them. There is a hole in the middle between the legs where the car seat goes through. If you are interested I will see if I can find a pick of one. I know I saw one at Little Me in Riverhead.

Re: Car Seat Blanket Bags
The one for the infant carseat you definitely dont need a jacket. Luke used one all of last winter (thank God he was in the infant seat for the entire season) and I put a warm blankie underneath and a hat on his head. If it was really windy going to the car, I'd put a receiving blanket over him till I got him inside. It was great.
I dont know about something for the bigger car seat. The problem I would see with that is you still have to get them in and out in the cold and if you are going in a store, they still need a coat IMO.

That's the thing, if I get one for the infant carseat only, she might be out of it half way through the winter.
Anna where did you shop for the fleece bunting and jackets?
Karen, I am going to BRU and Carter's tomorrow and I will let you know if I find anything.

Re: Car Seat Blanket Bags
I just found these fleece options at Lands End, they have jackets, bunting and full body suits.
Now, my only problem is do I buy the one for the infant car seat for $40 and only use it for a couple of months, or do I buy the bigger one (Bundle Me Big) that is from 12 months up, for toddler seats??? Lyla is 14 lbs, and probably 23-24 inches now. I can't remember the limit for the Graco Snugride carseat. The other thing is, like Elizabeth said, when using the bigger carseat, you have to take the baby in and out anyway. And, I live in a co-op, where we often have to park far, so end up leaving the carseat in the car, and carry her, or put her in the baby bjorn, unless she's sleeping. But, when shopping, I use the snap-n-go a lot, so it would come in handy then! I'm so confused

Re: Car Seat Blanket Bags
I have two of the zip up bunty thingys and I am one of those Mom's that DON'T believe in overdressing, Mia gets heated up in the car seat really fast and we wind up peeling her clothes off in the car even for a short ride, we do have heat in the car and I just feel like she is more comfortable when she is not so bundled up.
Of course we havent' kept her outdoors for more than a few minutes...car to house, house to car...so I just always bring her blanket and cover her up with that.

I never saw those bags for the older car seats but I do want to get one for the baby this winter. There is a store in Stony Brook that has really, really cute ones.

My sister-is-laws swear by the bundle me. I have bought them for a few friends and they all love it. They do make it for older kids. Here is where you can order it
I know they carry the smaller ones at buy buy baby. Not sure about the older kids size but it would be worth a call.

My cousin LOVES the Bundle Me thing...if Paul was a winter baby, I would have loved it too!
Right now, I'm using a GAP hooded sweatshirt under a windbreaker for Paul, but I just picked up his winter snowsuit and wool hat in Marshall's the other day. It is a London Fog, and it was only $24! I definitely want him to have a full snowsuit this year again b/c now he's big enough to go outside and play in the snow - so, I want him to be warm AND dry from head to toe!

Re: Car Seat Blanket Bags
Hmmmnnn...the Bundle Me thing looks so comfy but how would a big one work in the bigger car seat? Does it allow for the straps to be strapped between their legs? I would assume so. I can see it for a stroller because you're outdoors. But with a car seat how do you take the child in and out if you are shopping or visiting? They're still going to need outwear to get to and from the car, so then you would put them in the Bundle Me also? They'd overheat. I'm very curious because I do dread Lukie being cold at all this winter, he was so snug in the infant seat last year but it's got to be practical.
Still, I might think about the Bundle me for the stroller. I like going out in the cold, it's great for the baby's lungs as long as he's warm.

Re: Car Seat Blanket Bags
Liz, I don't think you can use the Bundle Me for an older child. Personally, I think a toddler would be *extremely* frustrated to have his legs confined....which is why it's perfect for the smaller infants in the carriers.

Re: Car Seat Blanket Bags
Elizabeth, I see your point. It doesn't make sense for the bigger size.
I think I'm going to get the infant car seat one, and just get a warm fleece too.
