My car is ready for its 10000 mile service. I know I NEED to get it serviced to keep it in good condition, but I don't want to spend a fortune.
Do you usually take your car to the dealership to get it serviced, or do you take it to your own car mechanic?
I can't decide if I want to spend the extra $$$ at the dealership (if i don't and have a problem later they may not honor my warranty....)

Re: Car Servicing
I usually go to the dealership, I figured they know the most about my car.

Re: Car Servicing
Why do you need to get it serviced? Is there something wrong with the car?
You know the 10,000 mile and all the other services that your dealership, or car manual has are just a ploy to get your money, right?
Most cars now a days are maintenance free for 100,000 miles. The only thing you need to do is change the oil, and filter, and drain the antifreeze and refill once every other year to have a good running car. There is no reason to get the 10,000 mile service done. Scott

Really? I'm such a sucker, I totally follow the owners manual. What about rotating the tires - they say they do that every 10K miles too? Thanks for the info, maybe I'll just head down to Jiffy Lube and call it a day

Yes you can get the tires rotated. DO NOT GOTO Jiffy Lube. Stay Away from there.
If you want to get any work goto Speedy's or WTC or Wonderama in Valley Stream. JIffy Lube is the Worst. Scott

Re: Car Servicing
For oil changeds, tire rotations, etc, I've been going to a local mechanic, but for my 40K service (which cost a FORTUNE) I went to the dealership. I think for somehting as big as a 100K service I'd go to a dealership. I just picked up my car form the dealership, one of thre problems it had was a known problem and they were able to fix it for free, and I just walked out of there feeling really confident, and for the service I got, wher they cahnged pl and filters,c heck everything, etc etc, it was only $65, so I thought that was well worth it for peace of mind. Plus I need my car to last a LONG time

What did they do for the 40k check? On your car, you have a 100k mile maintenance free engine. You dont need to bring your VW to the dealer for any type of service, it is all such a scam to get more of your money

Truly I don't remember! I know they changed all of the filters, changed some belts and hoses, did something to the AC, I honestly have no idea. I need my car to last ten years so I'm trying to take good care of it. I was pleasantly surpriused though bringing my car in this week. I went in wanting a whole laundry list and they told me I didn't need most of it, so I was happy with that because I would have have been an easy sell.
