Would it be weird if I had them put out our card box at the cocktail hour? Whenever I go to a wedding I wish I didn't have to hold the card that whole time waiting for the dinner part. It never fits in my clutch or his pocket. There was even one time when I set it down under my plate and the staff threw it out and had to go digging through the garbage to find it...

Re: Card box at the cocktail hour?
I don't think it is good etiquette to put the card box out at the cocktail hour but I'm not sure. I know at my cousins wedding during the cocktail hour people were sneaking into the reception room and putting envelopes in.
I'm not sure.

we had it in the reception room... and when a few people gave us cards during the CH, DH put them in his jacket pocket and eventually the maitre d saw and put them in the card box for us

People will hand them to you during the CH hour- a lot of people like being able to hand it to you rather then putting it in the card box.
I wouldn't put it in the CH room- just my own opinion.

I wouldn't put it in the CH room. If people hand you envelopes maybe you could give them to a close friend to hold until you get into the reception room?

Re: Card box at the cocktail hour?
I wouldnt put it in the CH room. Many couples wont remember right then and there to give it, you'll have many guests who will remember in the middle of the night or end of night. I mean you would put it in the reception too right? i would just leave it there. They can just put it in the box when they get in the room if they dont want to hold it all night

I know what you mean! i wonder if it would be appropriate to put the card box in the church so they can drop it in when they get there?
but wait, perhaps this wont work b/c some ppl will unfortunately not show up to the church and only the ceremony.....

I'm not sure if it's bad etiquette to put it out at CH. I would ask the bridal attendant or your MOH in advance if she can take the cards from you at CH and put them in the card box for you in the ballroom.

I would ask someone if they can hold the cards you get at CH, whether its your MOH or mom.
I dont really think its bad etiquette to put the cardbox in CH, its in your reception room so really there isnt much of a difference to me. *I* would prefer it in CH b/c I dont have to hang on to it.
There are people however who wont put it in the box and will hold onto it to give it to you personally so really the cardbox only holds so much weight except to be the place to 'store' the cards until you leave.

Re: Card box at the cocktail hour?
Hmm...this is kinda interesting. I guess it's more common practice to do it one way rather than a clear etiquette thing?
Just to clarify, I would still have it in the reception room and I don't plan to be at my CH so there will be no handing them to me during that time!!

Re: Card box at the cocktail hour?
we werent at our ch either...but thinking back to weddings we've been to I dont remember ever seeing a card box at the ch. I dont think its appropriate imo....if I was you i'd just accept them and give them to someone you trust to hold.
