My mom thinks its rude to have your guests drop your card into a card box. She said the guests usually hand you the cards as you go around to greet them. I was just wondering what your thoughts were on this since so many of you are using them. I love the look of them, byt I don't want to offend anyone. I guess it would save me money!

true.. also: be careful with the cage ladies... anyone can just sweep by it and grab any cards sticking out.

Even if you do a card box I find that people still want to hand it to you regardless. If you can hand off the cards to a designated person then they can put them in the box- the box imo merely acts like a 'safe' of sorts.

Re: Card Box dilemma...Is it rude?
I don't think anyone was offended by the cardbox we had... some people gave them to us in person, and I didn't realize how many had just put it in the box themselves! It was great. We were running around constantly and were thankful not to have to run up to the bridal suite every 5 minutes!

Some people will use it and some peolpe won't. Here's the thing, what do you do with all of those cards when you have them?!?!? Put them in the box!

I actually am using a card box because at the last wedding I went to it was annoying to have to hold on to the envelope until the bride and groom went around collecting them. Some people will still give it to you personally, but its good to have another alternative.
exactly why it is not rude to have a card box!

Re: Card Box dilemma...Is it rude?
Not rude--super helpful! DH and I didn't have one. As we went around speaking with folks, they handed us envelopes. We were so busy we didn't return to the suite to put them in the safe very often, and ended up being afraid we dropped or lost one. Fortunately, that didn't happen. If we had had a box, it would have given us peace of mind. By using a box, you increase the likelihood the gifts won't get lost and that your guest will get acknowledgement of their gifts. Just don't carry it around with you--set it on a table.

Some will drop them in and some will hand them to you. I find a card box to be preferable b/c i cant stand hanging on to the card until the B&G come around to your table

Re: Card Box dilemma...Is it rude?
those who want to put it in your hand will do just that (i had some guests that did that), regardless of whether you have a card box, but then at least you have a place to go put it.

Re: Card Box dilemma...Is it rude?
my mom says the same thing..which is why i am not having one either..i feel it is a lil rude, but not totally.. plus most weddings i've been to, there is never a card box and people just hand them to you.

Thanks ladies! I guess it would be nice to have someplace in the room instead of running to the bridal suite to put the cards away.
just a piece of advice --- DO NOT leave ANYTHING in the bridal suite of value, including envelopes!!!!!!!
RHs will tell you that the bridal suite is locked and safe---but 9 times out of 10---it is not. so best to have a cardbox that is near the sweetheart table.
i know culturally some people find the cardbox odd. i know that for a lot of italian families, they do the money bag that is usually made by a member of the family, and the bride & groom walk around with it and then a close family member watches it for them. (i know there is a specific name for this---and i can't remember it right now....totally on the top of my tongue)

Re: Card Box dilemma...Is it rude?
I personally don't believe its rude..some people will prefer to hand it to you themselves and others will just use the card box. I have always liked having the option of attending a wedding and just dropping my card off in the box/cage...the bride and groom are swamped with other people greeting them so this way i don't have to wait, hold on to it, and hand it to them..

I don't think it's rude at all! I think a lot of people will still want to hand it to you, but for guests who don't want to have to keep carrying it around until you go by their table, it'll be a lot better because they can just drop it in the box.

Re: Card Box dilemma...Is it rude?
I was worried about that too, but after reading this post, I think it's a great idea. I know at our Engagement party, everyone was handing me cards and I didn't know where to put them, so at least we'll have a place to put them.
Where do you set up the box anyway?

I was wondering the same thing. I guess you would set up a small table near the bride and groom table?

Re: Card Box dilemma...Is it rude?
i'm making mine i don't think it's rude at all. some people will still hand cards to you but i liked the idea of having a place for them all to go. i know i really don't want to worry about putting one down somewhere and losing it. Also i'd rather have the cards near me and FH so we can 'keep and eye' on them

Well most guests will hand you the cards and you drop them in the cardbox. I just think it's a nice way of holding them all in one place so you don't have to worry about carrying them around.
