card box question

card box question

So I was sitting with my family the other day and I was looking at card boxes well my aunt was like why waste money on that when its the couples job to go around and pick up the presents from everyone as you are saying hello to them at their tables. Personally I don't want people to hand me cards I want them to put them in my card box or on my gift table. My aunt and grandmother said the table/box was impersonal and a bit tacky. I disagree. What do you all think? It seems like everyone I know has the box or the birdcage.

Re: card box question

Every wedding i've ever been to, the gifts were handed to the bride and groom right before they left as they were sayign goodbye and the bride handed over a wedding favor in return... We're having a card box...but mostly bc I love how they look.... but it will be right by the dais and i'll be putting the cards into it myself

Wow, I never ever thought a card box was tacky. Actually, when someone has it it's so much better because I know where to put the card. Otherwise I always think to myself that I don't want to bother the bride and groom by giving them their card.

I agree with your family. While I don't think they're tacky, I think they are a bit cold for your guests to 'deposit' your gift into a box. At weddings when there is a card box I prefer to hand my gift directly to the bride and groom, and from what I see going on almost everyone else prefers that too. I think that card boxes are fine for you to put your cards in once you've gone around and collected them, but I think it's courteous to go around and welcome/thank everyone for coming to your wedding. JMO!

I think cardboxes are a good way to ensure gifts arent stolen...they are so big it would wayyy too obvious if someone were waltzing out with it.

you can do it whichever way your comfortable. Im planning on having the card box on the favor table at the end of the night so when i say goodbye to guests and give them their favor I can just pop the card in, this way its also not impersonal either

I personally like the card boxes. Every wedding we go to, people usually have the card boxes either next to them or on the favor table. I was at a wedding once where a girl was carrying a plastic bag (you know, from the supermarket) and putting the cards in there. IMO, that looked weird and it just didn't look right having the bride walk around with a plastic supermarket bag.

When we go to weddings, we generally hand them the card at the end of the night as we are saying goodnight and the bride and groom put them in the box themselves. I think the only time I put in the card myself was when the couple was busy on the dancing and we didn't want to interrupt, we had also said hi to them during the CH and reception, so it wasn't like we hadn't seen and congratulated them already.

of all the weddings i have been to only 2 had card boxes. at both of them i noticed the majority of people gave the envelopes to the bride & groom at some point during the reception & then they would hand the cards to their MatriD to stick in the card box.
although i think they look really beautiful, i do think its a extra expense.

Re: card box question

Just about every wedding I've ever been to had a card box. I wouldn't want to have to carry around those cards with me while I'm greeting everyone or have to drop them off back at the gift table. I've actually already bought my card box!

I absolutely do not think card boxes are tacky!!! There are always guests that feel uncomfortable approaching the b&g with an envelope in hand, in my experience. And if people want to hand it directly to you, you just go and slip it in the box so it's safe and they're all in one place!
