CARDBOX HELP

So.... with all this talk about DIY cardboxes, I went to Michaels yesterday and I could not find ANYTHING for making a card box! Am I looking in the wrong place?

HELP?!

(any advice on how to actually make it would also be appreciated)

Blank paper mache is sturdy enough? I know nothing about this apparently.

How do I chose fabric, just any kind I like or a certain kind for this? What type of glue do I use?

Re: CARDBOX HELP

i got my boxes from ac moore, you can also check out joann fabric.
i used sating (warning - white satin shows the boxes through so dont use it or buy enough to put on more than one layer)

i used adhesive spray to attach the fabric and a glue gun to attach the ribbons and rhinestones
it held up great!

let me know if you have questions

Try looking on saveoncrafts or amazon for the boxes.

they have them on wrapwithus.com - its local (LI) so if you pick up then you avoid shipping. they are pre-fab white cakes that you need to decorate i think they are like 20 bucks hth

So I bought the boxes from A.C. Moore. The store is nice but the customer service was terrible

There was not any good fabric there and I'm thinking maybe I should use paper.... any ideas on what kind? They had cardstock paper with nice patterns on it but it was in sheets and not big enough.

This may sound like a crazy question, but is a card box REALLY necessary? I'm just not a DIY kinda girl, and I'm having a hard time justifying even the minimal expense.

i dont know how many guests you are having at your wedding...we had 203 and there is no way we could have held all the gifts in his tuxedo pocket or my purse. you definitely need some sort of holder - a cardbox, birdcage...something imo

What a mess! We tried to make it today and I don't understand how the cards will drop down to the bottom

Re: CARDBOX HELP

You will just cut a hole in the boxes. So you will take each tier and cut a hole in the bottom of the box. Then you will glue them all together. when ppl stick their card in it will drop to the bottom. To retrieve them you can just take the lid off of the bottom box and voila!

I don't understand how you cut a hole in the bottom if it's wrapped with fabric......

Also, I'm concerned that the cards would get stuck when the go down the tiers. I guess it has to be bigger. I bought the biggest box they had at the store (paper mache stackable type) and it doesn't seem like it's big enough to prevent 'clogging'

I didn't use fabric. The paper mache boxes are pretty sturdy for what you are using them for. I ended up using spray paint and ribbon
