cnn.com didn't say who the new pope was...jsut said that one was elected. Unless it is on tv & cnn is not as up to date as we would like it to be!

I agree...it doesn't state who the Pope is. It just said that Ratzinger did the homily and is a traditionalist. He may be too old at 78, no?

There was talk that the next pope elected would be a little older, since none of the cardinals really stood out as the best candidate. They don't want to have another super long papacy so soon!

Germany's Ratzinger is new pope
Joseph Ratzinger of Germany was elected the 265th pontiff today by the College of Cardinals. He was announced as tens of thousands of people cheered in St. Peter's Square. Cardinal Ratzinger has chosen the name Benedict XVI, the Vatican announced. The announcement came shortly after white smoke rose from the Vatican chimney and bells rang to announce that a new pope had been selected.
