Those of you who DIY menus and stuff- what weight cardstock did you use.
I want to use a pearlized paper- but according to paperandmore.com most printers won't print on it! For my programs I need a fairly heavy weight paper that won't bend (unless you are trying to bend it...stiff enough to stand up on its own without falling over.) For my menus I was thinking of doing a heavier backing- so for the actual menu part I could use text weight paper right?
Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated!
ETA: another website I'm looking at says printing directly onto pearlized cardstock is not reccommended!!! Is that true?!
For my menus, I'm doing 110lb ivory cardstock from Staples and then using a metallic chocolate paper in the back for the border. For programs, I'm using 65lb. I originally bought the 65lb for the menu's, but I felt like I needed something sturdier to stand up. I think the text weight paper would be fine. I ordered from paperandmore, btw, and the paper is beautiful and came very quickly.

I am actually using parchment resume paper. It is slightly thicker and seems to look beautiful. Picked it up in staples. It has a gold tone to it.

Re: Cardstock weight for menus and programs
I am using paperandmore.com I bought samples of the copper and champagne pearlized cardstock. They printed great on my printer. I have a regular old ink jet printer too. I would suggest you order a sample first and try it to make sure. I am using the regular copper pearlized cardstock for the cover of my programs and then I think I am going to use the text paper for the inside pages because the regular cardstock just seemed too heavy.

I am using 111lb cardstock weight paper (metallic) from paper-papers.com. Definitely VERY sturdy.
I agree that 65lb might be ok, but only if you add a backing layer - otherwise it won't stand on it's own.

ITA. My invites are the same paper and printed with my inkjet with no problems.

Thats a great idea! I'll probably use that for my menus...then order cardstock to back it with...
Then I'll order the heavier cardstock for my programs! Thanks ladies!
