Care for my Dress Question

I have to pick up my dress from Macy's at my last fitting, which is two weeks before my wedding. I don't know what to do with the dress until the wedding to ensure that it wont get wrinkled or ruined from the heat (my mom's house has no air conditioning) or dust or anything. Two weeks before the wedding is the last time I will be on LI before the wedding (I live in NC) and I don't want to wait until a few days before the wedding for the last fitting because if there is something that needs to be fixed, there wont be much time. Any suggestions??

Care for my Dress Question

Why not go for the last fitting 2 weeks before but tell them you want to pick it up a day or 2 before the wedding. They will hold it for you and can do some last minute steaming on it if need be. No reason for you to have to keep it in an unairconditioned house for 2 weeks. I had my fittings all done but didn't get it until the day before so it was fresh, then I hung it on a ceiling plant hook with the train hanging down.

Store requires I pick it up at last fitting

This is a store policy. All dresses must be picked up at final fitting.

Care for my Dress Question

If you have to keep it in the dressbag, maybe a dry cleaners near where you will be married could steam it for you the day before.

Care for my Dress Question

That`s too bad about their policy but does your mother have a room, maybe an extra bedroom that you can leave it hanging and keep the door closed? You will not be hanging it there long term so the air conditioning isn`t that big a deal but you do want to avoid stirring up dust near it. Your salon will no doubt tell you to keep the train hanging loose so maybe you can drape a big sheet around it. They will probably give it to you on a hanger that is shaped like a bust so the top part will hold the shape. Try not to worry, it will be fine. If you can put it in a closed up room is the best idea I can think of.

Thanks

Thanks for all of your advice. I might ask a friend who has more room at her house to store it. Good idea about the bust shaped hanger. I'll check into that with the salon. I know it's a stupid policy and most places I know of do keep the dresses. Oh well.
