From the post Yabbobay started it sounds like many of us have dreams for a different career, I know I do. However, I am uncertain about going about it.
Has anyone made successful career changes? Did anyone ever consult a career counselor? Does anyone else want to make a change, not just keep dreaming about a change?

Re: Career Change
I made a career change a little while back. I was psychology major in college and then taught 3rd grade in NYC on a per diem license for two years while going for my masters.
Teaching was great and so were the summers off but I needed to explore what else there was. I ended up working for a tech company developing eLearning courses. Got really lucky finding that job but since changed jobs and am now a certified Instructional Designer and develop curriculum for a company. I write and design manuals and eLearning courses. I have also branched into doing some freelance work for a company. I really like what I do and may go back for my masters at some point.

Re: Career Change
I'm in the midst of making a career change. My background is aviation. I was going to be a corporate pilot, but the more I got involved in aviation, the more I decided that doing it as a career just wasn't for me (I'd rather fly for fun!) I currently work as a contractor for the FAA, but I'm getting my Master's in Communications Technology. It seems that there are TONS of IT jobs out there, so I decided that I needed to get a technical background to make me more marketable.

Re: Career Change
Not really a career change but I've always worked in public relations and I will go back to school in sept. (part time) to get my masters in communications. With this degree, I can teach pr college courses.
I figured in a few years when I have kids this new job would accomodate my schedule a bit better.
