CAREER: Help-Writing Resume Cover Letters

I'm helping out my sister with witing a cover letter and this is all we came up with...

Should a Cover Letter be longer than this?
Anyone a Paralegal/Legal Assistant in a Law firm - I'd appreciate your input too?

Dear____/To Whom It May Concern:

I am submitting my resume to your company/firm to acquire the position of Legal Assistant. I feel that the qualifications you are looking for meet my skills from past experience. I am hard working and able and willing to take on more responsibility.

[Attached to this letter is a copy of my resume for your review. It highlights some of my accomplishments that I would be happy to discuss in person. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.]

or this as a last paragraph-?
[I would welcome the opportunity to further discuss my skills and this
position. If you have questions or would like to schedule an interview,
please contact me by phone at [phone number] or by e-mail at [
e-mail address]. I have enclosed my resume for your review. I look forward
to hearing from you.]

Sincerely,

Is this in response to an ad or a job posting?

For a a mass-mailing and also in response to an ad or a job posting if she finds any.

We would we have to re-word it each, right

Yes-I was about to offer a revision of the letter but it should not all be general. Cover letters need to be somewhat specific and it helps if there is an ad or job posting that you can refer to.

Mass mailings are mostly a shot in the dark. I used to be an office administrator of a law office in NYC (I will never do that again), but one of my jobs was to hire the administrative staff and paralegals and legal assistants.

It would be a good idea to call some firms and get the name of the person in charge of hiring. Send the resume and follow up a week later to see if they have received it.

I hope this helps.
