Re: Carltun Brides - FYI - Negative Review!!

Just to let you know....

I read this entire post. Throughout my reading, these are my thoughts

A: Not once did I think Randella was taking anything the wrong way...

B: I applaud 2 Untamed for posting an honest review.

C: Randella. please dont think this post is about people taking your comments the wrong way.
The way I see it (and I am speaking from my own perspective on this) is the other brides who responded, like me, are actually responding to and applauding 2Untamed for her honest review.....I never even took what you said as you being overly sensitive at all and I feel the same way as these other brides who are glad to actually see an HONEST review.....

So dont feel bad Randella...maybe I speak for myself, but I understand what you meant.

Thanks Neesie for your comments.

Any comments I made about people taking things the wrong way were not necessarily in reference to this thread-- it was more a global statmement about the board. There seemed to be a lot of misunderstanding going on here.

At some points on the thread-- it seemed to take on a tone of people who applauded and welcomed a negative review where they made comments like some people' just can't take a negative review'. If that is a completely different discussion than that of disappointing results at a Carltun wedding, then it should be held elsewhere... otherwise the Carltun brides who responded would think that those comments are directed to them.. Ya know??

Honestly-- I appreciate what anyone has to say good or bad about any of their vendors- as I am sure any bride would. Anything that seems too good to be true- probably is.

Having said that-- can we just move on.

Re: Carltun Brides - FYI - Negative Review!!

Thanks 2UNTAMED for posting such an honest review and taking the time to explain your opinions. I think it's really useful and was not done in any way to bash Carltun or those brides having their weddings there. For those Carltun brides who had an opposite experience, that's fantastic that your day went so well but I also think it's useful to hear about the 'off days.'

As a bride, if I heard something negative about my hall, it would give me the opportunity to bring it up with the BM beforehand just to clarify things if I was assuming they would be done a certain way (like the sorbet at 2UNTAMED's cousin's wedding) or to let them know that 'I've heard X, Y, and Z--I'm sure that was a one time incident but I'd like reassurance that this isn't going to happen at my reception' (for whatever the reassurance would be worth).

Re: Carltun Brides - FYI - Negative Review!!

First of all, my husband is a vidoegrapher and has been in the wedding business for the past 5 years. He and most of the people he works with: photographers, DJ's, florists....all agree that The Carltun is one of the best catering halls. They obviously have worked in numerous locations and their opinions are that The Carltun has the best service, food, cleanliness, etc. With that said, when we went to choose a catering hall, The Carltun was my husband's first choice. Once, I saw it, I also fell in love with it, as well.

Quite honestly, I personally would never make a statement like that on the boards about 'Oheka' even tho, it is a 'Known Fact' that it is the 'Most Expensive and prestigious Hall' on Long Island. A statement like that only makes other girls feel like their hall is not worthy.

I did not in any way mean to make other girls feel like their hall is not worthy. I am not that type of person at all. Of course, it is very hard to get a good idea what a person is like through a message board. I can tell you that I am from upstate New York and would have been just as happy if I got married in my backyard because the location is not what matters about that day.

My purpose for writing that was the same reason you wrote your post -- you wanted to give your opinion and I wanted to give mine. If I were a bride about to get married and just heard something negative, I think that I would feel a little better after hearing something positive. Although I do understand it is important to raise the issues you addressed so that future brides can be aware of them.

Lastly, I am not sure if the vendor comment was addressed to me, but I have made it clear since my first or second post on the site that my husband was a videographer.

Re: Carltun Brides - FYI - Negative Review!!

Lastly, I am not sure if the vendor comment was addressed to me, but I have made it clear since my first or second post on the site that my husband was a videographer.

That statement was in reference a bride on this board who posted an negative review of a vendor she used at her weddings, and then another bride verbally attacked her review and harassed her, and in addition had some other brides whom she became friends on the boards do the same.

Later the bride wrote in her Wedding review that the vendor was a 'Guest' at her wedding. So how impartial and honest can a bride's review really be, if a vendor she is using is either a family member,
friend or associate?? Therefore, most likely than not, her opinion is naturally going to be somewhat 'Bias'. And that is why it is important to hear the good as well as the bad.

Sometimes, brides give 'Perfect' reivews of their weddings, just not to let other people judge the choice in vendors she used. Meaning, had they chosen more expensive or qualified vendors (Limo's, flowers, Video, etc....) then she would not have had any negative things to report. But, as we all know sometimes the 'Best of the Best' have an 'Off Day'. And any negative comment should not be taken personally.

Re: Carltun Brides - FYI - Negative Review!!

I am the bride that 2Untamed is referring to.

I think it is really a shame what this board has basically turned into - advertisement for LiWeddings vendors.

2Untamed - GOOD FOR YOU for posting an honest review. Back in the day when you and I were planning our wedding - that is why we came to these boards - for HONEST opinions which we could use to FULLY evaluate our choices and make the best decision possible. If all you see is glowing reviews, what is the point of even coming on the boards anymore, you may as well just open a magazine.

2Untamed - I really really wish you would post a review of your wedding. There are too few brides that have more 'upscale' weddings that post on these boards and those that do are so afraid to post their opinions but, I think you owe it to the vendors who did a good job, and, to yourself, to point out the vendors that disappointed you despite all your hard work.

Anyway, FM me! I would love to catch up

I agree - My vendors did a great job and our guests raved that our wedding was the best they had ever been to. I posted a fairly indepth review and got some neative FMs suggesting that I was bragging and that for the amount of money we spent people 'better of had a good time or we got robbed'. I took my review down and have not posted since. I just got my proofs and I wanted to compare my pics to other weddings, therefore I came back on the boards this morning. I saw this post and felt I should add my 2 cents

Re: Carltun Brides - FYI - Negative Review!!

Sorry, I just can't keep quiet on this one.

I find it difficult to take seriously any post - positive OR negative - in which every other word is misspelled.

I have had 2 fantastic experiences at The Carltun, but things go bad sometimes, what can you do... I think you just got unlucky, which is unfortunate because it is a spectacular place.

Annieb
It's great to hear from you!! I agree, the boards tone have changed since we were planning our weddings. I for one am grateful to the girls on this board who helped. And it wasn't just with their experiences of vendors, but with suggestions and ideas for my wedding. Which is why I still stay on this board to try and help future brides.

MegLehner-
I appreciate you posting, and I totally agree with you. I am sorry to hear that some girls took such a negative attitude towards your review. That is exactly the reason why I never posted a review or pictures. But, since this post, alot of girls have asked me to post a review and pictures of my wedding. I would love to share my ideas and vendors on this board, but would hate to have it also turn into an ugly post.

But as you, Annieb and other girls have pointed out, it is not as much to 'Show Off' my wedding, but to give Praise to all the Vendors who made my day complete. They do deserve to be acknowledged, either positive or negative.
I am leaving Sunday for vacation for a week and when I return, I may write a review for the girls who have asked me to post.

I had a 'Medieval Themed' wedding and would love to share my details with brides on this board. Again it was different and there will be girls who will like it and others who will not.
