Carltun on the Sound (long, but bear with me)

Okay i wasn't going to post this on this website b/c I was hoping to get some kind of response from the Carltun, but I never did, despite the GM telling me he would follow up on it.... this is what happened to me there

When my FH and I got engaged in Oct, we knew we didn't want to waste a moment. we made appointments with venues... the second place we looked at was the Carltun on the Sound. We met with on the the banquet managers and she looked over the menu with us and also quoted us (orally and on paper) XX amount per head for a sat evening wedding. We negotitated with her and worked around the menu so we could get the price that we could work with in our budget. We shake hands, make appts to come back later in the week to leave 4K as the initial deposit. When i called her to confirm our appointment, she tells me in a round about way that she'll have to charge us an extra 10 a head.... after speaking to the chef... this didn't make any sense to me for a couple of reasons..1. Why didn't she call me right away after talking to the chef? 2. Why did she okay our original amount in the first place if she has been a banquet manager for a while, like 7 years or something? Anyway, as you guys prob know, i was incensed. NOT that i would have had a problem paying the extra cost but that it was not communicated to me or figured out initially. IT also foreclosed me and FH from visiting with any other venues.

I followed up with the GM (mr. Williams) at least 3 times since that happened, and he promised to look into the matter and let me know what really happened, he thought it was strange too that she had quoted me one figure and then raised it after speaking to the chef. BUT guess what? he never came through either... anyway, it all worked out at the end b/c we ended up with the perfect venue, for the same date but i just needed to get that off my chest, my only bad wedding vendor experience.

See, that S*kz, becaus eyou could fight it, and win- and GET your price, because it's on paper, but why would you want to, after they act like that?
I'm glad you found a better venue, though, they lose!

Exactly, who would want to deal with that? It's such a shame how future brides are treated by some vendors.

I'm glad to hear you will no longer be dealing with them, good for you!

Wow, that really stinks!! But I'm glad it all worked out and you're happy with your new hall, sometimes these things happen for a reason!!

I had problems with them, too. I loved the space and wanted to book it, but everyone I dealt with there was so flaky and reluctant to give me a straight answer and I didn't feel comfortable about leaving my day in their hands. Too bad, because it's such a beautiful place.
Congrats on finding a new hall!

I went there and found the BM to be shady and disinterested. Too bad b/c the reception room is gorgeous; I didn't like the cocktail hour room or the bridal suite or - and the reason why we didn't book - their strange attitude.

Some vendors are overly aggressive and some are just too passive... But I am glad you have a great hall and got your chance to vent.

Believe or not I had the same issue with my reception hall after they tried to increase the price and said they made a mistake b/c they usually charge more for the sunday night before a holiday monday. (They gave us the regular sunday price.) I told them that was unacceptable after they wrote down their quote, and they honored their price.

ditto for me too! that was the first place FH and I went to because originally i wanted to have ocean views for the reception (changed my mind about that after we saw JT but thats a different story all together). We HATED the BM there, he didn't really know what he was doing and we definitely didn't like the prices we got for a Friday or Saturday evening wedding. Shady place if you ask me...
