Carlyle on the Green pics

We went to Carlyle by 11:06 a.m. after leaving North Ritz Club at 10:59 a.m. (I speed LOL LOL)

Carlyle was set up for a party - Gatsby style with sofas and lots of tables (different sizes).

I LOVED the ballroom but FI hated the floors (wood with no varnish). I do not like the cocktail set up - in the corridor and also inside one room. There is only the one bar for cocktail hour & the reception.

Carlyle can close off the ballroom while guests go outside (breezeway) so it's more of a grand entrance once they do enter the ballroom. I think this works better if you are not getting married at the hall though.

Oh, and the place is not wheelchair accessible. I was told that the waitstaff would carry wheelchair bound guests down to the Lenox room (or outside) for the ceremony early (before the 30 minute hospitality ends) and then lift them back out for cocktail. Not sure how that would work but there is not portable ramp.

FI also did not like the Lenox room - totally empty today and the floors could use some polish. I could picture it all decorated though (having seen the web site pics).

FI did not like the place since they seem to cater to the golfers instead of the brides. Not sure if this is true but we were told that we could not take pics in certain places and there were golfers roaming around today (which could happen during a wedding I guess).

Valets are $125 each, 1 per 100 guests.

10 hot/cold hors doeuvres
3 cocktail statons per 100 guests

September/October 2005 quotes

150 minimum
Thurs night $110 pp plus 20% service & tax
Sat/Sun afternoon $125pp++

ETA - one thing I found odd was that I cannot have my votive place cards on the credenza. I was told the guests would have to carry them around so I should put them on the tables and do paper place cards in addition to the votives.

Hmmmmmm... they are not wheelchair accessible at all? This is a red flag with me as my Dad sometimes uses his wheelchair.

I had this problem with Westbury Manor as well and that is why I didn't book them. WE would have been in the upstairs (smaller) room and my Dad and FH's aunt (who has adult onset polio) would have to walk up a flight of narrow stairs. It would have been humiliating for my Dad. He could do it but it would take about 20 minutes and I'd be nervous he would fall.

As far as I'm concerned there is no excuse for this by now. If they are worried about the interior decor of the building they could put a covered wheelchair lift on the outside of the building like my old church had. There are a lot of people in these situations. Howe are they not being fined?

Yeah, my friend David is wheelchair bound, although he plays wheelchair basketball. He would be too pissed to have to be carried down the stairs. I'm surprised that they have not put in at least a portable ramp.

When we visited there was an old wooden ramp (with wheels at the edges for moving the ramp?) but the BM said it was for the movers.

I suspect they have not made any renovations in a while, since before the laws changed. If renovations are made to the lobby area, Carlyle would be required to put in a ramp. That is happening in my apartment building, we are renovating for the first time since 1957 (structural not just decor) so we have to add a ramp. However, we have portable ramps and are now adding two electrical wheelchair lifts too.

ETA: I think if NY buildings do not renovate, they do not have to be ADA compliant. Not that this is an excuse though.

I have never heard of such BS before! I can't believe that there are still halls that are not handicapped accessible! They need to get with the program!

Yeah, it is upsetting but I do think they are in compliance with the laws so long as no renovations are done.

I still LOVE the ballroom.

Katrina, I wrote this before, but you didn't mention that you saw Woodbury CC. I think the place is beautiful and may just have all the things you are looking for. Good luck in your search.

I'm going there for New Years!
