Pretty much out of nowhere FH and I have found out that we can now afford a HM. I'm going to visit with a Liberty Travel agent tomorrow afternoon to get some info but I honestly have no idea where to start.
Here is what we want:
- someplace that will be hot in January - a nice beach - romantic setting - mid priced but 5 star service - good restaurants on premises
Some pluses would be:
- all inclusive - a US island (FH doesn't have his passport. He can always get it, but he's bad at things like that).
Can anyone recommend a spot?

Re: Carribean HM Recommendation
I would recommend for your FH to get his passport. its really not a difficult process. you can get the application at the post office and/or online and have the pics taken pretty much anywhere and just mail it in.
I have been to and like:
Riu Palace in Los Cabos, Mexico;
Sandals in Negril, Jamaica
Bahamas (but I was on a cruise)
Def look into cruise options also if u think you and FH will like that. Also Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
The only US island i can think of is the U.S. Virgin Islands but i've never been there.
edited to add:
Oh and Hawaii but again, never been there.
There's also Puerto Rico. You do not need a passport to go there. I've stayed at the El San Juan Hotel & Casino and at the Intercontinental. Both VERY nice!

You have to get a passport to go anywhere now because you need one to get back in....you used to be able to go the Bahamas I think with just a license and birth certificate but no more. So he'll still have to get one no matter where you go.
ETA: Just looked, you don't need a passport for Puerto Rico so that's an option. But he really should get one and it is super-easy. Get his picture taken, fill out the form and drop it off at the post office or mail it in.

According to the dept of state:
Traveling to and from U.S. Territories U.S. Citizens traveling to and returning directly from a U.S. territory are not considered to have left the U.S. territory and do not need to present a passport.
U.S. territories include:
American Samoa Guam Northern Mariana Islands Puerto Rico Swains Island U.S. Virgin Islands
I still recommend that FH gets his passport. You can go here for the application and any other info you will need: US PASSPORT

Re: Carribean HM Recommendation
I highly recommend that you both have passports.
I also went for my HM to Sandal's St. Lucia (we stayed at the Halcyon which is quiet and on the beach- also all inclusive except for any excursions that you may take).
I have some photos on the bottom of my review (the links at the bottom of the page) in case your interested.

We highly recommend Barbados. We went there for our HM and we loved it. The whole island is gorgeous, very safe, great restaurants and most of all people are very friendly.
We really like Barbados that we plan to visit again in Dec.

We stayed at the Westin St. John for our honeymoon...it was fantastic. Its on the US Virgin Islands. The island is beautiful and has a ton of gorgeous beaches.

Re: Carribean HM Recommendation
For all inclusives
Check out
Dominican Republic -- the Paradisus Punta Cana ( I highly recommed this one for the beaches and restaurants, night life, casinos, most affordable) I've gone there 3 times with FH
Aruba -- The Westin
Myian Riveria Mexico -- The Adventura Spa Palace (adults only beautiful resort, great restaurants, only it is a man-made beach)

I'd get the passport...you really need it these days for anything outside of US. We've been to Excellence Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic I(this past Jan/Feb) and Occidental Grand in Aruba (last Jan). Both were All Inclusives and we really enjoyed them a great deal. Well worth the money, good food, choices and beautiful accommodations. Check out tripadvisor.com for lots of good input. I went to Liberty travel and took one of their 'all inclusive' brochures and did some research on some of the 4 star (and higher) places online and that's how we booked it.

Did you book online or through the travel agent? I went to Liberty Travel. She gave us a good price, but I'm wondering if online is cheaper.
