IDK- $20-$40 per place setting(??). FH's cousins registered for Calvin Klein everyday dishes and they were like $20 per plate though. The didn't register for fine china though. I think it depends on the style more than the price. BTW- they both got ALL pieces they registered for so don't worry too much about how much it costs. People still buy it.

Re: Casual China
Also, is your china supposed to match anything? Like your furniture? I think I just blew a gasket trying to figure this all out.

Re: Casual China
I registered for something neutral b/c we dont have a house yet an ddont know how we will decorate. It can match your house if you want, but doesn't have to. You dont need to have a whole color scheme on your registry.
These are our everyday. We didn't register for fine.

Re: Casual China
wowww you're doing your registry already?? good job!!
for fine china i'm thinking the most i'll go is $85 per setting b/c I think FH's mom is supposed to get it for us...don't want to make her broke!
for everyday i'm thinking of going with some some from crate and barrel. they have really reasonable everyday dishes. FH has lenox everyday dishes right now and has 14 of them between him and his sis....so hopefully i won't have to put them in at all. i would say up to $25 per setting should be okay for everyday. check out crate and barell though..they have nice everyday things!!!
don't forget friends usually buy the everyday...unless your friends have money, you don't want to seem like the greedy one that puts things on there so others can buy it. get it??

Re: Casual China
hmmm...to add above....
i always thought this was a good theory....although some disagree:
The things that should be on your registry are items that you would buy yourself from stores that you would shop at.
I hate when people put things on their registry when it is something they wouldnt buy for themselves but feel for some reason that since they are getting married everyone has to buy them the most expensive stuff!
i may be wrong....

Re: Casual China
A lot of people have been begging my Mom and my FMIL to tell them where we are registered so they can send a congratulations gift. Before we were registered we ended up getting cash, crystal candle sticks and a BBB gift card because people had no clue what to get us, so we figured we'd register now.
ANd, as far as only putting more expensive things on the registry because other people are buying, I don't think that's right. I think the right thing to do is to put things on the registry that people of all financial backgrounds could afford. I know that my aunts will likely buy me something fairly expensive, so I will register for some things that are expensive for that reason. Also, when my cousin was recently married, she registered for outdoor furniture and the bridal party all chipped in $100 each and bought it. I'll also put less expensive things on the registry because there are obviously go to be people (i.e., my fellow law student pals) who aren't going to have a ton of cash. So, I think it's OK to put expensive things on there, as long as you have a wide selection so as not to give off the impression that you're trying to weasel expensive gifts from everyone.

This is my 3rd year coming up - aka the most useless year of my lifeeeeeeeeeee!
I 100% agree - these have been the worst years of my life. I thought being a summer associate would be a break, but it seems like hell in a new form. I get to anticipate 3L and the bar exam AND work all at once!!! I would love to meet the guy that thought this thing up!
Oh and did I mention I'm getting married a month after the bar? And did I also mention I am already so psychotically fearing the possible fatal stress interaction of the two events that I bought bubbles for the church, the guestbook and matching pen, my garter, pew bows and some other highly absurd things to be buying this early?
