My kitty is 8 years old. He's taking to our newled home pretty well and we still take him back to my parents at least once a week. He's fantastic with it. We put the leash on him and he knows he's either going outside or he's going to grandma's. For the past 3 nights he's been nutso at about 4am. The first night it was cute b/c he was all much and just wanted to be pet and loved and cuddled. The past 2 nights he's been getting into things he knows better to stay away from. There's something about the closet in my bed room that he keeps trying to break into. We have the cord from the AC lopping in and out of the closet b/c we don't want to have a random cord in the middle of the room. He's been jumping on our night stand. This happens to be where the alarm clock is. Before we got married he realized that when the annoying thing went off I got up and fed him. So he started a new thing of poking the alarm clock to make it go off. I'm not sure if this is what he is trying to do now. DH is not used to all this commotion and hasn't been sleeping well at all. He was up since 4am. He tried sleeping on the couch but then just retreated to the computer. He was kind enough to lock kitty out of the bedroom so at least one of us could sleep. I don't know what to do. He's used to dogs not cats.

Re: Cat help!
i'm sorry Have you ever tried a laser light with the cat to try to tire them out. I know my cat loves it and goes nuts over it. Maybe you can try it like an hour or so before bed.

Re: Cat help!
try feeding him right before you go to bed. we have a cat that wakes up at 4am every day. there's nothing we can do with him except lock him out of our bedroom. i feel your pain.

Re: Cat help!
We had to start closing the bedroom door to keep our cats out (we have 3). One would start scratching at the blinds at the crack of dawn so that we'd open them, another would sit on our legs and start play-biting our feet, and the other one would literally end up sitting on our heads in the morning.
FH said he didn't mind, but I was like, no way. So we started locking them out and haven't looked back! Even FH admits it's better this way.
Then one of them (the head-sitter) starting scratching the bedroom door (ANNOYING) until we threw something at the door or got up and yelled at her. Then I bought this thing called Ssscat that's basically a can of air with a motion sensor/heat sensor that sprays when a cat gets too close. It scared the hell out of them the first time, then they learned to stay away, even when it's off!

Re: Cat help!
I used to let my cat in my room....
until FH moved in. lol.
Now he scratches at the door and we have to put our laundry basket in front of it so he can't scratch. He got over it...

Re: Cat help!
My little beansie started to have, what we called, night terrors at about 4 am for 2-3 weeks or so...a few months back. I work at all hours of the day and night so being woken up at 4am to his meowing really killed me. I would hug him and it was basically just him wanting attension. I read online that since cats are notornal...you basically gotta ignore them when they try to get us to be awake at 4am lol. Try not to yell, or get up when the baby meows and he should stop.
