cat people please help Xpost from pets

we just got a new kitten last night.....my older kitten who is about to turn 1 is NOT HAVING IT i know it hasnt even been 24 hours yet but it a little scary. She looks at the new kitten and hisses so loud....i have NEVER seen h er hiss until yesterday when we brought the kitten home. When i was living at my moms there were 2 other cats she didnt see very often but when they came downstairs ( my brothers cats) she wouldnt hiss or anything she just wanted to check them out. I am worried that we will have to bring the new kitten back if she keeps this up. She wants nothing to do with me i cant even pet her she just btes me and walks away i have had her almost a year ( she was 4 weeks when i got her) and its sad that she is mad at me lol but i want her to like the new kitten. she has not gone after her yet or tried to pounce at her she just gets a nasty hiss and look on her face like she wants to attack it. Is there anything i can do to get her to adjust to the kitten better or just have to wait and see what happens?? thanks so much

You should keep them separated at first. I kept my kittens in the bathroom. I would take them out for like 20 min every night, but Mima HATED them. Would hiss and smack them. They were much smaller than her, so I was scared she could really hurt them. I spoke with my vet, and he said when they're big enough just to let them gradually be together more. He said cats aren't wild animals, and they wont kill each other - they'll either be companions or just ignore each other after a period of adjustment. Honestly, it took about two months for me to feel comfortable enough to leave them together over night, but they WILL adjust. It just takes a ton of patience. Cats are friggin weird.

Hang tight they will start to get along. I have 3 cats one acts like she doesn't like the boys but when we sneak up on them she is cleaning them like she is their mother! Give the older guy at least a week to realize little one isn'g going anywhere. Before you know it they will be running your place!!!

We were going to keep the 3rd one but we rescued him and he was about 4 weeks old and he was so timid around the others now HA forget it he is a beast!

What did you name the little kitty?

I would keep them separated at first and bring the kitten out for a few minutes in a carrier each day or night for your cat to get used to the scent. Your original cat is just feeling threatened and marking her territory. Give it time. When I introduced a new cat several years ago, my original cat wanted nothing to do with my new cat. Today, they are fine and even give each other baths
