After 11 years of semi normal behavior, our cat has decided he wants to splash all his water out of his bowl. He does'nt tip it over...he slaps all the water out with his paws. VERY STRANGE, this started two weeks ago...I give him clean water twice a day, and different bowls...he takes a drink, when he's done, he splashes all the water out onto my floors! I've learned, now there's a towel under his bowl, but it's soaked!
Has anyone seen this in their cat?
The funny thing is that I hear him splashing about in the middle of the night.

Re: Cat splashes all water out of his bowl
My crazy cat started this when we moved into our apartment last year. He would swat the bowl around the kitchen until all the water was out. We tried the towel which only helped absorbed the water, heavy bowls, etc.. Nothing seemed to work until we finally bought this water pitcher (similar to this pic) After the 1st few days of trying to swat it he's given up and we've had dry floors since.
My puppy did that for awhile until we got her the bowls that are head level - she doesn't have to bend down to eat/drink. I'm not sure if they make something like that for cats though...

THanks
I just find it so strange that this 11 year old cat has sudden taken a liking to this behavior...why now?
I find it very funny, but would love it if he stopped.

This sounds so funny...but I am sure its not for you who has to clean it up. He probably did this once by accident...and then liked it...so kept doing it. He is probably watching you from a distance and laughing as you clean it up!!
Chloe likes to put her toys in her water. I have no idea why. I will wake up in the morning and there will be 3 toys in there....its so annoying taking out these sopping wet toys everyday.

Re: Cat splashes all water out of his bowl
You have no idea how happy I am to hear that another cat does this!!! Gunnar, after 14 years of semi-normal drinking behavior, started to play with his dish - he pushes it all over the kitchen and is not happy until there is a puddle soaking the floor and nothing left for him to drink.....so bizzare!
the solution - at Linens and Things, we found a heavy water dish that has a lip around the top rim, so no matter how much he pushes it around, he can't spill the water! It's working so far!
