Caterer disappointment

Caterer disappointment

Was so excited to have go to our first vendor appointment in some time. Had a caterer appointment Wednesday with Country Road Caterers in Amityville.

So when i first called she was very wishy washy about seeing us like we were bothering her. said they close at 5:30 but if that didn't work she'd stay late....her offer i didn't even suggest it. so we made an appt for 6 the following week....but as we were getting off the phone she said ok so call us when you want to come in. i said i just told you wed at 6pm she said oh, ok. so we go in and she seemed pleasant enough. asked if we had a budget said not really but we know what we want. so we told her what we were looking for and then i added the roasted pig and a cotton candy machine. said she didn't have a price on the cotton candy machine but would call me back the next day with prices. i said ok, no problem. so the bill came out to over $5000 and that didn't include any type of alcohol or the cotton candy machine. it did include a bartender, a chef and 3 servers. fine. so we said ok and she's like is that price way out of your price range? I'm like no not really but i have to talk it over with my mother since she was the one footing the deposit bill. we're about to leave and matt says, who is pete? i said huh? she wrote his name down as pete after she asked me on the phone for his name and asked again when we walked in. whatever but i was like really? how do you get pete out of matt? so we went to the car and looked over the estimate.......they are charging me $800 in service charge for 'incidentals'. Matt said forget that. It should be built into the price. So a friend of mine is getting married in Sept. and I asked what caterer they were using. So we have an appt. with Garage Eatery in Islandia on the 25th. They do not charge service fees and they are actually less expensive than the place in amityville AND he invited us there for lunch and was just so wonderful on the phone and so excited that we were able to come in for lunch. It was such a nice change of pace. My friend adores him and he gave them a killer rate. So fingers crossed.

Oh and she never called me back to follow up with the cotton candy machine price or see if we'd like to leave a deposit. That's bad customer service in my opinion. I asked her 2x to call me back with the price. You'd think she'd make the effort. Obviously they are above doing my party.....especially since she went on and on about how they did Billy Joel's bbq a few weeks back.

Sorry, went off on a tangent. Just needed to vent.

Re: Caterer disappointment

sorry u had this bad experience!
I hate it when the vendors keep reasking for ur or FH's names. this should be the 1st and most important thing they need to remember.
also hate it when they start name drop just for the sake of dropping. its one thing to mention who u worked previously with to elaborate what type of affairs u did, but a whole other when u say it to make urself sound more important.

hopefully the other caterer is going to be a great experience for u. GL!

Sorry to hear about your disappointing experience. I recently had one with an unprofessional vendor as well. It sounds like you'll have better luck with the caterer your friend used. Good Luck!

Oh i'm so sorry you had to go through that!
but.. GOOD news for you:
I work right down the street from the garage... they really are AMAZING... as long as its not during lunch time..
let me explain-
Dom the manager/owner is great... he's offered me sooo many free lunches... I have certain food allergies and I'd call to place my order and have my coworker go pick it up explaining that I'm allergic to peppers (or whatever else might be in it) well I kept calling to make sure that my lunch was ready for pick up and that there were no peppers and that they ran my credit card... well I guess I annoyed the girl working the phone and she had them put peppers in my rice... I freaked!!!!!!!!!!! I emailed them immediately and Dom offered me a free meal each day for a week AND fired the girl...
he explained that she was stressed, she was only working there a month, if that and that it was during lunch when its really busy, but he felt horrible about it.
I have NEVER had a problem since.
My co-workers have been going there DAILY since they opened! I personally haven't gone inside yet because I can't leave my desk at work, so my svc tech goes (he would be going anyway).
I actually considered having our e-party there just based on the food.

So.. I really hope they work out in your favor- I hope I didn't bother you with that story... I just wanted to explain to you how DEDICATED dom is to CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Thanks. I don't mind spending the money if the service is good. We looked them up online and they had good reviews so we felt good going in there and spending extra money for good service. To not get Matt's name right and to not call me back........he threw out their info this weekend when I told them they never got back to me with the cotton candy price.

Glad you had great experiences with them!

Amanda Garage has yummy food. Before the economy went down the toilet we used to have them do all our functions out of the office.

Feeling better about this already. Maybe it was a good thing she didn't call back
