catering hall giving out personal information?!

we went to see carltun on the park yesterday, and 2 vendors already called FH today to see if they can provide any services.

are the catering halls allowed to give out our information??

Hmmm...I don't know but I CAN tell you that my hall did...I got a call from a photographer and have gotten mail from a limo place. I think if you ask them not to provide info they dont but i never thought of asking about it

Before I picked my hall I went to around 20 halls. Oh course every hall takes down your information. I got so much mail in the first few months of being engaged and phone calls. It has been six months and the mail and phone calls have dyed down. So yeah they definitely give out your information and I am sure it is legal.

I can tell you- after I registered, signed up on web sites (this one included), and seeing reception places.. I started to get a TON of mail, calls and spam! They all give out your info.

From the Carltun, I do not remember getting any calls related to that.. maybe I did.

ETA- Like I don't remember anyone saying- we got your name from the Carltun, etc.

The only random phone calls or mail I have gotten were vendors of the NRC. I was told by another bride to be very careful who you give your info to, and I tried to do that all along.

i got a bunch of calls from Swing bands who said they got my name from the Carltun!

Every cold call I get I tell them I AM NOT INTERESTED IN YOUR SERVICES... for the simple fact that these vendors should be sooooo busy with their customers that they do not have time to spend making calls to potential clients. I do not want to use a vendor that has to beg for work. If I want to use a vendor, I will seek them out.

After I registered on LIW and before I went looking at halls I got SOOO many phonecalls from random DJ companies and such... so I'm thinking they got my phone # from here...

they are all involved with giving each other business. I got a lot of mail from LI weddings, but no vendors called. I think all wedding specialists recomend other vendors and then get paid on how many weddings they book for the other vendor. For example each vendor is housed at a different catering hall. Tommy's Tunes with Eastwind, ADA with Majestic Gardens, etc. It's whomever they recomend on their little 'may we suggest' sheet that they give you when you book or go visit. That's usually who contacts you for the business.

When I registered here with LIW, I literally got about 100 pieces of wedding-related mail within the first two days. I remember I couldn't even find my legit mail, b/c it was sandwiched in between so much spam.
I have received numerous phone calls, e-mails, and snail mail from vendors. The worst has been Flowers by Brian... I have NO IDEA how they got my info, but I think they found out my last name and then looked for my number in the phonebook, because every time they have called me, they called my sister's line (not my phone number nor the number I have given out to halls). My sister gets SO mad when they call.

Flowers by Brian is definately the worst! They call me every few days. Obviously I'm not interested. They should get the hint.

The Riviera definately gave out my info because a few times vendors have said that they are 'in-house' vendors for th Riviera. LIW also gives out the information, I think. Its really frustrating.
Has anyone ever booked a vendor that called them randomly?

Can you imagine?
Them: 'Need a DJ? I'm a good one!'
Me: 'Sure, where do I sign?'

Come on, Its just not realistic. Somehow, this 1 DJ place got my FH's phone number, and called him. When FH said that we already have a DJ, the DJ had the nerve to say 'But are you happy with him?'

Obviously we booked our DJ for a reason, and yes, we are very happy with him!

Tommy's Tunes must have called us about 10 times, we kept telling them we weren't looking for music yet, but they just kept calling.... We then told them 'don't call us, we'll call you.' Then we finally just told them we found a dj (before we actually had) b/c we decided we didn't mesh well with their rather forward style.

This is why I only give my cell-phone number out and not my home number. 99.9% of the time my cell phone is off. If it's really important they leave a message. If it's a vendor soliciting I just delete it. FH and I have a strict rule, I'm a h.s. teacher so no-one gets the home phone. I'm even unlisted on my work phone chain, only the person who needs to call me has it. I just hate to be bothered by telemarketing calls.

the 2 vendors said they got our info from carltun. seeing everyone is getting calls, i guess it is legal. maybe we'll just ask the halls to take our names 'off the list' or something. i'm sure if we specifically request it, it should be ok. hopefully it's not too late!

there's a thread about this on the knot -- carltun and carlyle seem to be famous for giving out potential brides' info. (sorry, I can't access knot from work, so no link today).

Be sure to let carltun know what they're vendors are doing with the information and how unhappy you are with the carltun for using these vendors and distributing your personal information.
