Catering Hall -- NEED HELP!

Catering Hall -- NEED HELP!

Hello, Congrats to all!! I have just started my search for a hall and it is not going well. I feel as though every place that I see online looks generic. I can afford up to 135 a person and I will have approximately 150 people. My other puzzle piece is that I will need kosher food. Has anyone found a place in Nassau or Suffolk Counties (New York) that will meet my needs that is not the same, 'cookie cutter' catering hall? ANY suggestions will be appreciated! Thank you!!

I know that Crest Hollow Country Club has an onsite glatt kosher kitchen. It's quite pretty there and I think the price per person is much lower than what you mentioned.

I also believe that the Royalton provides kosher food and its not generic at all. A very elegant mansion.

I know the Village Club in Lake Success provides kosher food. And it's on a golf course so it is not your generic catering hall.

I was actually surprised with the availablility of kosher food when I was looking.. and I wasn't even looking FOR it, I just happened to notice it. It shouldn't limit you TOO much.

There's a super wedding reception list on LIW.com and there's also another one that I can't find right now that listed whether or not locations had kosher options. Still looking.

Most places will let you bring in kosher if they don't provide it, so you could actually look almost anywhere. I also need kosher and I am looking at H on the Harbor and Warehouse 5, becuase I like the more modern look. If you wanted somethng more classic my sister had her wedding at the Swan Club and they have kosher. The Woodbury Jewish Center is beautiful and kosher, though a little pricey. If you want to keep costs down, you could have a dairy wedding. That's what I am going to do and it brings the cost down considerably.

Try Douglaston Manor Mansion...You can see my pics on here. It was beautiful and I think they do kosher.

I'm looking for the same thing, it was hard at first because I wasn't familiar with the kosher caterers initially and how they work. You could technically go anywhere and bring in your own caterer. If the place does not have a kosher kitchen, they will kasherize the kitchen before they cook. But some places won't let you do that on a Saturday night because you are using their whole kitchen and then they can't do more than one party. So, there are some logistics with it.

I've found it easier looking at places with their own kosher kitchens. We loved the Royalton, they don't have a separate kitchen, but they only do one party at a time, and are owned by Jem caterers who also do the Jericho Jewish Center. They quoted us 190 for a Saturday, 140 for a Sunday, but mentioned we could work with the numbers. They totally customize their menu for you and the place is beautiful. Totally blows away any catering hall.

If you aren't into the catering hall thing, you probably won't like Crest Hollow, but you can't beat their prices for kosher. I've heard they put on a nice wedding. We weren't a fan of it.

Definitely check out the synagogues. So far we've looked at Shelter Rock Jewish Center and Sephardic Temple in Cedarhurst. They are both in your price range, even for a Saturday night! We liked both a lot, but are leaning towards Shelter Rock because we liked the ballroom better. Sephardic has a nicer sanctuary though. Both are more reasonable than others I've called, like Temple Isreal in Lawrence and Woodbury Jewish Center.

Most RH's will allow you to bring in your own kosher caterer. They can often suggest one as well. Every place we looked at had a glatt kosher alternative for us (a variety of hotels, Crest Hollow, Terrace on the Park).

We were able to get ours down to 95pp because we did a winter wedding and cut out one of four CH food stations. You definitely can get under 135pp.

You might also want to work a little backwards -- look up the kosher caterer and find out where the typically cater. If you look up the website of our caterer (does all the catering for the Dix Hills Jewish Center) they list other venues that they typically cater. Regal Caterers, FM me if you need help finding the website.
