catering minimums

catering minimums

what happens if you think you might have more people than you did when you booked your catering hall? perhaps like 25 more ppl - max.
when do you let them know about the increase? is there a rule that you should under/over-estimate it until the last minute?

It depends -- do you mean that you'll have 25 more people than the minimum you had to guarantee? In that context, the minimum is just the minimum that you're contractually obligated to pay for. So long as it's not over the room occupancy max, I wouldn't mention it to them until you have to give a final count shortly before the wedding. Remember that not everyone you invite will RSVP yes. From what I've seen on the 2011 board, people often have a few no-shows on the day... in that case, it might be good to underestimate slightly so you don't wind up paying for empty seats.

I couldn't have said it better myself!!!!

ITA with the previous posters, but I also will add that the more people you're likely to bring in, the more extras they might throw your way. So while I definitely wouldn't call them and guarantee more people, I'd definitely throw it out there that you might have more than expected and see what they offer you!
