CATERING PRICES....

Hello Brides and 'Brides to Be'!!!

I am recently engaged and we are going to try to pull off this wedding in 6 months!!!! I have been on this site and others, all week and just want to thank you for all the great ideas and advice I have received here.

I am hoping some of you can shed light on how flexibile the caterers are in regards to their per-plate prices. I just went to 2 places and we are seeing a third tomorrow. Obviously, the 'plate price' will be a major factor in our decision. I have been told that we can really negotiate the price down, or get extras since we are looking for a date only 6 months away. This makes sense to me but I would love to hear from others who have been through this experience.

Thanks so much in advance for your feedback!

Re: CATERING PRICES....

I do not have the same experience but I know that most RH will be flexible with pricing because they are trying to fill up unused dates (so that is to your advantage)

Re: CATERING PRICES....

tell them flat out...that you are looking for the best date with the best price...

that's what FH & I have been doing and quite a few places came down on their numbers.

the best place we were able to haggle with was Riviera in Massapequa- beautiful place- on our first meeting they threw in tons of stuff and dropped the prices on multiple dates they gave us.

you have a big advantage by planning a wedding so soon!

GL & Have fun!

Re: CATERING PRICES....

I think you can get a lot with all of your vendors by booking with so little time. They're essentially filling open dates they would not have otherwise filled. With the RH especially if you are flexible on date, I think you can do a lot. I accidentally sent a request to LIW vendors with the wrong wedding date (they thoght I was getting married ina few months) and the vendors who had availability were practically throwing themselves at me.

If you don't mind a million phone calls, I would recommend sending out a vendor request on LIW. The vendors who have availability will contact you and often offer you deals without you even asking for them based on the closeness of your date.

Re: CATERING PRICES....

what are you looking to spend per person?
a lot of us on here have visited with plenty of halls and have ideas on pricing for different months.

Price was a BIG factor when we booked... we looked at 17 halls and contacted about 40 others ( )
