Is anyone planning on giving a bouquet to the Virgin Mary statue during their ceremony? My mom keeps talking about it, I have no idea what this is or when I'm supposed to do it.

Yeah - I saw this done at another wedding. I think both the groom and bride go over to the statue at the end of mass. I have to find out more about it first. I think you do it as a prayer for fertility and so the Virgin Mary blesses the marriage.

Re: Catholic Brides
We are planning to do this. I've never seen it done though.
Someone told me that the purpose is to take a minute out to thank God for all the blessings bestowed upon you.
I found a website (http://www.shsc.org/weddingguide.htm) that says something different though:
An old Catholic custom that many couples opt to choose is to place a rose or a small bouquet of flowers at the statue of the Blessed Virgin or St. Joseph after Communion. The couple remains at the statue(s) for a few minutes, asking the Holy Family’s intercessory prayers in order to help them to be good spouses & parents. If a hymn is sung (often times 'Ave Maria'), they remain until it is finished.
Hope this helps!

My sister did it. I think she did it riht after the unity candle when she also gave a flower to my mom and my BIL's mom.

Re: Catholic Brides
I did it at my mass. We walked over to the statue of Mary after communion. My florist had made a special bouquet for me to do this.

Re: Catholic Brides
I didn't. I always thought that it was done if one of the bride or groom's parents were deceased. And I have only seen it at weddings where that was the case. But, I don't know all the meaning behind it, as most people probably don't, so if its something you want to do I would.
