Do you need to have an organist for the church? I know my church charges $100 for a organist, I was thinking of just getting a violinst instead and putting the money towards that. Can you do that? We're not having a whole mass just the half hour ceremony.
Anyone know if the church will let you do that?
TIA

Re: Catholic Brides
I am not sure about all churches but we have to use our organist. We can have a seperate soloist if we want. It is the same price though for our organist if we use her for just the organ or if she sings also. ($150) I actually thought about getting a violinist also but I think it would be an extra exspense I can live without. I would just call the church and ask them what their policy is.

in general, no, you can't do that. whether or not you use the parish musicians, you must pay the musician fee. but every church is different, so you can always ask!

My understanding is that you have to pay the organist whether you use him/her or not.
At my church, I get an organist for $100, a soloist for $100, and if I want to add a flutist that's an extra $100 (but if I don't want the flute, I don't have to pay for it - I DO have to pay for the organist and soloist even if I don't want to use them... so I'm using them, lol).

When my sister got married, she wanted to use a different organist which wasn't a problem but she still had to pay the regular church organist - you should check w/you parish. It's their job so whether you use them or not, I'm pretty sure they have to get paid by you.

If its a money issue, talk with your priest. some parishes are more willing to let things go.

This is what we were told. No matter what we still had to pay the music fee-but it doesnt hurt to ask
