For those girls that are getting married in a Catholic Church, did you set the date with the church before you set the date with your RH?
My FH and I are not active parishioners, but our daughter was baptised at the church we want to get married at and they said when we are ready to set a date but i dont know how it really works.

Re: Catholic Brides
I shopped around for a RH first since I was on a budget and needed to see who offered me what for the best price. Plus RH's book up pretty fast (a lot of the ones i visited weren't even taking 2009 dates anymore)... Once I had the hall booked, i booked my church.

Re: Catholic Brides
I booked RH then the church a few weeks later.
I wasn't really worried about the church being booked already since it was 2 years away. As it turns out, we were the first couple to book for 2010 at my church (they didn't even have a book yet!!)

Re: Catholic Brides
I would definitely check with the church first just so you can make sure they write in the date. I don't know which priest I'm having yet but at least I know the church is mine and then I can choose one later.

Re: Catholic Brides
We booked the church first...but we already knew where we wanted the reception to be..so we checked a few available dates with them, then we booked the church and went immediately to the reception hall to book.
It is definitely more important to book the church first, so you can know what time everything should start.

Re: Catholic Brides
I booked the RH first, and then the church.
I didn't tell the church though because I read on the boards that some churches frown upon that.
I just liked my RH hall so much I didn't want risk losing the date. I figured if my church was booked, we would go somewhere else.
When you go meet with the priest, they will give you a pre-marriage interview, and give you all the info about pre-cana and stuff.

Re: Catholic Brides
we actually did the RH first, then the church but I figured since it was an off-season wedding the date would be open, and it worked out.

Re: Catholic Brides
I booked the RH first because I couldn't get in touch with anyone at the church (RH was giving us a deal if we booked within 24 hrs)....I was so nervous when I called the church that monday but it worked out

Re: Catholic Brides
Definitely be careful. Here is what happened to me. I found the hall first and booked. When I went to the church, they told me they could not hold my wedding that day because of a religious holiday and there would be masses going on all day. Mind you, I NEEDED to have my ceremony there because it has been my church for all my life!!! LUCKILY, the hall worked with me to change the date. We got another date which I got them to only HOLD for me for 48 hours and ran to the church and it was available!
So my advice would be, go to the halls first, and when you see a date you want, ask them to hold it, go to your church to see if its available, and then book.

Re: Catholic Brides
We did the RH first, we figured that if the church we wanted wasnt available we would go to another church or have our ceremony at the hall. Once the RH is booked you have to switch locations...if the church is booked you still have options tho they may not be your #1

Re: Catholic Brides
I did the RH first, but only because my wedding was 2 years away when I booked. I had called the church and they actually told me they didnt have the book yet. If it was sooner, I would have done it the other way around.

Re: Catholic Brides
We looked around at reception halls first and when we found the one and the date we called the church and booked with them before we put the deposit on the reception hall.

Re: Catholic Brides
We met with the church first with a date in mind. They penciled us in. Then we booked the RH and confirmed the date with the church.
