nope - its not part of the catholic mass
just a nice touch that some people like to add!
we are not doing it just our vows! I am sure they wont have a problem with the hands prayer ( although every parish is different)

i know we dont have to do it, but i feel like since we're not doing it we should do something in place of it. also fh and i loved doing the hands ceremony during precana.

Since I am just doing a ceremony do you think I can do the unity candle and have the hands prayer read?

we did the unity candle.... i woudl ask your parish about the hands prayer thing. . . . some parishes don't allow you to stray too far from the Mass. .. .. most parishes allow you to do a unity candle because it's not added words or scripture.. you jsut light a candle. they may not let you do a spoken thing like the hands prayer because it is not part of the Mass or otherwise approved by the Church.

it depends on the parish but i think that would be okay insome parishes. . . I am having a ceremony also - which means they just cut out the communion but i dont see why they wouldnt let you do both the candle and hand ceremony
(unless like the PP said, your particular church doesnt allow ANY additions)

we're traditionalists.... no candle or other extra ceremonies... its likely you'll be permitted to do the hand ceremony.....
