Did you have to get a new copy? I was told we have to. Did they charge you? Anyone get theirs from St.Joseph's church in Ronkonkoma? That's where my FH was baptised and I have to call them.

Re: Catholic Brides: Baptism certificates
My parish told my FI that if he does not have his at home then he needs to get a copy of it from the parish where he was baptized. I don't think you need a complete new one.

Yes you do need a complete new one, after you are baptised and you receive your communion and confirmation, the original church you were baptized in puts 'notations' on the back of the certificate, proving you receive the other 2 sacraments. It's a pain in the butt but you have to get a new bapt. cert with notations on it. :)

Right but actually it can not be an original because the church has the original. They usually give you a copy.

Re: Catholic Brides: Baptism certificates
Aside from communion and confirmation being noted on the back, marriage would be there too as matrimony is a sacrament. My priest said that is why they need a new one, because when it is requested they can see if you have ever been married in the church before. Annoying, but necessary.

Re: Catholic Brides: Baptism certificates
CHECK WITH THE CHURCH YOU ARE GETING MARRIED IN. I GOT A COPY AND IT DIDNT COST A THING. YOU NEED A RECENT ONE TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVENT BEEN MARRIED BEFORE IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. AND THIS THE WAY THEY CHECK IS TO GET A RECENT ONE. aLONG WITH CHECKING IF YOU HAD ALL YOUR SACRAMENTS, I.E. COMMUNION AND CONFIRMATION.

Re: Catholic Brides: Baptism certificates
I had to get a copy for my FI. I just called the church where he was baptised, let them know we were getting married and he needed an updated copy. THey just asked for his full name, date of birth and the date he was baptised. About 3 days later, it came in the mail.

OMG! I highly doubt either my FH or his mom will remember his date of baptism...LOL! He is the baby of 4. Thanks everyone

Re: Catholic Brides: Baptism certificates
Don't worry, just tell them his name and how old he is, they will find it from there. They don't charge you, but like everyone else said, they need it to make sure you had all your sacraments and weren't married.

Re: Catholic Brides: Baptism certificates
Ladies, make sure you ask them for your UPDATED baptismal certificate.. you do not want a copy of your cert. you want one that lists that you performed your communion and your confirmation... also, make sure you get yours no later than 9 months before your wedding.. they shouldn't charge you for it..

I think they give you a copy, but it has the seal on it. Our church did not charge for us to get one.

Re: Catholic Brides: Baptism certificates
If you are getting married in a church you were NOT baptized in, ask them if they need the baptism certificate with a note on the back or bottom (usually there is spaces for it) saying when you made any other sacraments. They will tell you what they need. Then call the church you were baptized in. What they do is make a copy (which is still official as they put a seal or emboss a seal on it). When you request it, tell the secretary it is for your wedding and if you need those notations about other sacraments on it, then they'll do it. They should know what you mean.
If by chance you were confirmed elsewhere than where you were baptized - tell the church where you are getting married and ask them if you need to get in touch with that church too.
All these churches do this sort of thing so once you ask they'll know what to tell you.

Re: Catholic Brides: Baptism certificates
I have been calling both my parish and FHs for our baptisimal certificates, and neither has gotten back to me I thought I was OK with a copy of the original (I have that for both of us) but apparently we need an updated copy. One more thing on the list to worry about!
